Chapter Ten
I sat in the chair as I wiped the sweat off of my face with a towel.
"Nick, when you told me how hard this was, I used to laugh. I never realized how tedious rehearsals are."
AJ laughed, "Just wait, hon. You haven't even started doing shows yet. Once the tour starts, which is less than a week away, you'll know what sweat is."
"Nikki, can I talk to you for a minute, Sweetie?"
"Sure, Mom." I had grown accustomed to calling her that from all of the time we had been spending together.
"Sweetheart, once we start touring, there'll be some new rules. They're not my rules, but Lou and the Wrights insist on them. You will not be able to ride in the boys' tour bus. You will show no public displays of affection. If anyone asks you about your relationship with the boys, you will say it's completely professional. The boys, including Nick, will deny any rumors of them having girlfriends. I know this sounds terrible. If you have any questions about this, you may ask me or any of the boys' girlfriends. They're all had experience with this."
She kissed me on the head and went about her business leaving me speechless.
Nick came into the room, "Oh, she gave you the girlfriend speech, didn't she? Yes, Pearlman's a dick, but if it'll keep him happy, then we'll do it.

"You're a quick learner. Just make sure you keep in time. You have to follow their lead even if it's wrong." Obie's been giving me lessons, and I feel as though I'm just about ready.

The first tour went well. I learned a lot. It hurt each time Nick said he was single, but at least I knew the truth. He loved me and that was all that mattered.
