Chapter 5: Truth or Dare?

Sarah awoke to the theme song of The Amityville Horror. She must have dozed off. She looked around the dim room. Dave was asleep on his arm, Bob had fallen asleep on the arm of the couch with his hands in the popcorn, she looked up at Scott who fell asleep with his head tilted backwards. But when she looked over at the bean bag chair Clint wasn't there. Hmm, that's strange. Where would he be?

"BOO!" Clint muffled and grabbed Sarah's shoulder. He quickly put his hand over her mouth knowing she would scream.

"Shh, it's just me," he informed her. "I'm sorry for scaring you," he said while taking his hand off her mouth. Sarah sat there and stared at him. Clint got the feeling she was mad at him. He went to apologize again but was interrupted by Sarah whacking him in the head with a pillow.

"Okay we're even!" Clint begged as he took another hit in the face.

"There now we're even," Sarah said as she threw the pillow over Scott's head. Sarah pushed herself out of her comfy spot in between Scott and Bob, and joined Clint in back of the couch.

"I'm bored. What do you want to do?" Sarah asked Clint as she put another sour patch kid in her mouth. Clint shrugged his shoulders. The two sat there for a minute, each thinking about what they could do.

"We could play truth or dare," Sarah blurted out. Clint looked up at her with a look of shock.

"That's a girl's game I will NEVER play that!" Clint sternly informed her.

"Truth or Dare?" Clint asked Sarah twenty minutes later. Sarah giggled with delight.

"Umm, truth," she answered.

"Aw come on! Truths are boring!" Clint protested.

"Quit whining and ask me a question," she demanded.

"Okay fine. Umm...." he began. "Oh yeah okay. Me, Bob, and Dave always wanted to know if you had a crush on Scott because your always hanging around him."

"No, I don't. We're just really good friends. I consider him my older brother," she answered.

"Your lieing!" Clint laughed.

"I am not!" Sarah answered now laughing with him.

"Yes you are!" Clint was now laughing so hard that tears were running down his face. Sarah launched a pillow at him, and it nailed him in the face.

"I do not!" Sarah repeated as she beat him with the pillow over and over again.

"Mercy! Mercy!" Clint yelled. Sarah stopped with a satisfied face.

"Okay my turn," Sarah said as she fixed her hair. "Truth or dare?"

"Dare," Clint answered as he rubbed his hands together. Sarah looked around the room in search of something she could use against him. That's when she spotted the whip cream bottle they were using on their ice cream.

"I dare you to take that whip cream bottle and squirt it all over Dave's face....without waking him up," Sarah challenged. Dave was the lightest sleeper of them all. If you dropped a quarter near his head he would wake up.

"Okay," Clint accepted. Sarah giggled as he picked up the whip cream bottle. He brought the tip to Dave's cheek and gently pushed on the tip. It took about 5 minutes to finish, because he had to keep stopping because he thought Dave would wake up from Sarah's giggling. But when he finished it was a very funny sight. As they turned around to go sit back down Clint tripped on Scott's shoe and tumbled to the ground with Sarah underneath him. They hit the ground hard but both were laughing hysterically. But Clint stopped for a minute and watched her laugh. That's when he realized how pretty she was and a new feeling came over him. Sarah stopped laughing when she saw the look on Clint's face. She liked Clint, more then a friend, but she didn't do anything about it because she knew that if they broke up, it would ruin their friendship. They would never be as close as they were before, and she didn't want that to happen.

"Can you get off me?" Sarah whispered.

"Yeah," Clint answered without moving. They sat there for another minute and that's when Sarah pushed Clint off of her.

"I think it's your turn to ask me," Sarah said quietly.

"Yeah. Truth or dare?"

"Umm I'll take a dare since the last time I took truth," Sarah giggled trying to bring laughter back into their night. Clint smiled.

"I dare you to..." he stopped for a minute. Just ask her, he told himself. "I dare you to kiss me," he choked. Sarah looked at him like he had asked her to the impossible. But she had to admit she wanted to really badly but what about their friendship? One little kiss isn't going to kill us, she thought.

"Okay," she whispered. Clint leaned over and brought his lips to hers. They had only kissed for a couple seconds when Sarah pulled away.

"What's wrong?" Clint asked confused. Sarah turned her back to him because she felt the threat of tears in her eyes.

"Clint don't get me wrong, I really like you, and I have to admit kissing you was something I had been waiting for, for a long time. But if we got together and broke up, it would ruin our friendship," she sobbed. "And our friendship means more to me then anything in the world," she finished. Clint sat there staring at her. It was true their friendship meant a lot to him too but he wanted to try this.

"Sar, look I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry," Clint said as he moved up in back of her and laid his head on her shoulder. She didn't answer but stopped crying.

"Look, I am asking you out, but I'll give you as long as you want to decide. Let's just try this and if it doesn't work out then we'll go back to just being friends," he said now rocking her in his arms. Sarah didn't know what to do, she was so confused and tired.

"Clint, I'm going to sleep. I'll give you my answer in the morning. Night," she whispered.

"Night Sar," he whispered back. Sarah returned to her spot on the couch and Clint went back to the bean bag chair. I'll have to talk to Scott in the morning, she told herself.
