Chapter 10: Suicide

“He can’t take her from me Scott! He can’t!” Sarah repeatedly sobbed into his chest. Scott had now moved to the couch and was holding Sarah tightly as she sobbed. He wanted to know what happened, but didn’t want to rush her into explaining anything before she was ready.

Bob had given up on keeping up with Clint and Dave. And plus Sheila had stepped in so the excitement was gone. He entered the family room, and was shocked. There was Sarah sitting on Scott’s lap sobbing and Scott was gently running his hand up and down her back. He walked in and sat down next to his brother and friend.

“What’s wrong?” he mouthed to Scott. Scott just shrugged. Sarah sat up and looked Scott in the eyes, searching for comfort. Something to take all the pain away, but didn’t find it. That’s when she realized Bob was sitting next to them. She slowly turned her body so that her back was against Scott’s chest. She laid her head on his muscular but comforting shoulder and stared at Bob. She looked deep into his chocolate brown eyes and found compassion. She saw compassion in Scott’s eyes too but not the same kind. It was weird. She took a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling slowly.

“You guys know how my Aunt has severe depression?” Sarah weakly asked. They both shook their heads.

“Well.....” Sarah could feel the tears spilling over the bottom of her eye lids. “She commited suicide today,” she sobbed again.

“Oh gosh, oh Sarah! You poor thing,” Scott gasped as he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Bob was speechless, Sarah’s aunt was everything to her. Sarah wanted to be just like her. When her parents were gone Sarah would call her aunt and talk for hours. Bob met Mari Jo---Sarah’s aunt----once when she came to stay with Sarah. She was a delightful person and very fun to be around. She had this personality that when you met her she treated you as if you were a life long friend. He knew right there and then that he was going to have to be there for Sarah as much as possible. For Sarah this was like losing a mother and a best friend.

“Oh Sarah, I’m so sorry,” Bob managed to choke out. He began crying and so did Scott. They hated to see Sarah in this much pain. She was too good of a person, she didn’t deserve it.

“But Shelia he started it!” Clint whined. But he stopped complaing when he saw the scene that was being displayed in their family room.

“Sarah what’s wrong?” Sheila asked now very worried about her ‘daughter’. Sarah stood up and ran to Sheila.

“Sheila, my Aunt Mari Jo comitted suicide,” Sarah sobbed. A shocked expression came accross Sheila’s face. She held Sarah in her arms and listened as she sobbed.

“Oh Sarah,” Sheila whispered as she stroked her head. “Is your mother home?” she asked as she pulled Sarah infront of her. Sarah could only nod. Sheila left Sarah’s embrace and quickly ran for the phone. Sarah returned to the couch and sat by Scott. Clint and Dave walked into the room and sat on the couch accross from Sarah, Scott, and Bob. Dave handed Sarah a box of tissues and she quickly accepted them. She blew her nose and set the dirty tissue on the table.

“When’s the funeral?” Dave quietly asked.

“In 2 or 3 days,” Sarah replied as she laid back and closed her pulsating eyes.

“Sarah I’m so sorry,” Dave whispered.

“It’s alright, it’s not your fault. She chose to leave,” Sarah cried.

“Well always know that your our best of all friends and we are here for you through all of this,” Bob reassured her. Sarah smiled at all of them.

“I love you guys so much,” she cried knowing she could never describe to them the love she had for each and everyone of them. Dave and Clint joined the other three on the couch. They all hugged her at the same time.

“Boys pack your things. We’re going to Paso Robles, California with Sarah,” Sheila informed her boys as she re-entered the room.
