Chapter 5

Zac and Taylor were both in the basement practicing. Or at least they were trying to but thinking of Sarah the whole time they couldn't get anything done. "Tay, let's stop, I can't get anything done anyway." "Fine, I can't either." And Zac went upstairs and Taylor stayed down there. He thought of Sarah and he started depressing himself. He loved her so much it hurt. He was aware Ike loved her but he did too. For all the money and power that they had they couldn't do anything to help her. He hated feeling useless. He was also wondering what Ike gave her as a gift. What was just so private? He was going to ask him but he knew Ike wouldn't tell him anyway. There was some stuff that they just never told each other. They may have shared a lot of things and be best friends but even best friends didn't tell each other everything. He lay down on the couch and slowly started to fall asleep.

Taylor woke up and looked at his watch. It was around 6 o'clock. He yawned and debated going back to bed until he smelled the turkey. He quickly changed his mind and ran upstairs. Everyone was scurrying around setting the table and getting the food laid out. Taylor walked over to his mom, "anything you need to be done?" "Well, we could have used your help about 20 minutes ago but never mind now." Taylor turned around and let out an annoyed sigh. "I heard that Taylor." "Sorry!" And he walked into the living room and flipped on the TV.

"Bless us our lord, for these I give . . ." But Ike started thinking about other things. He figured right now is better then never to tell them. He started to get a sick feeling like before a concert. "Amen." And they all started to eat. He decided to wait until someone brought up Sarah before he said anything. Ike dished some food out for himself and proceeded to eat. "So, how's Sarah doing?" wonderful, the first topic. Their mother looked at them and started to dole out some stuffing for Taylor while he was holding his plate. "She's not doing too good." Ike said and slowly ate. "Oh, that's terrible. Do they know when she's going to get a heart?" "We never know that Mom until the last minute." "I knew that Taylor." "So what did she think of her Christmas gifts?" "She loved them Dad." Zac said stuffing his face to the absolute brim. "Don't talk with your mouth full." "Sorry." He said shooting out some turkey, "yucky! Zac!" Avery said who was sitting across from him. Zac swallowed, "Ike, what was the secret gift you gave her?" Ike could have smacked his brother but decided better now then never. "I got her a ring," he said taking a drink of milk. "Really, what kind?" Their Dad asked. "A diamond ring." "Ike, how much did it cost?" Their father asked eyeing him. "Um, I don't remember." "Ike, what have we told you about blowing all of your money?" "Dad, when you got mom her engagement ring did you skimp on the cost?"

Taylor dropped his plate and it shattered on the ground. Zac's mouth was hanging open and his parents looked at him in disbelief and horror. "You got her a WHAT?" Taylor asked in horror, "I got her an engagement ring. When she gets her new heart. And she finishes up college, or whenever she feel's it's right we're going to get married." Ike said calmly expecting the volcano reaction to blow in about 3 seconds.

Isaac lay on his bed. He couldn't believe his parents said the things they did. It basically amounted to Taylor cleaning the broken plate and asking to be excused. Zac was happy for him along with Jess and Avery because they both liked weddings. Mac and Zoë started crying because both parents were yelling. They kept saying he was too young, she's going to die why torture yourself like this? And when he said she wasn't going to die his parents looked at him as though he was insane. It ended after a 20 minute yelling match and saying he was going to announce it on the next TV show they were going to be on. This enraged their Dad and he said that if they wanted to stay in the music business he couldn't do that to himself and his brothers. Then Zac had said to Ike, "don't do that to us!" He agreed only because of Zac.

Taylor couldn't believe it and he didn't want to believe it. He was so angry with Ike he was shaking. He picked up a pair of leather pants that were strewn on the ground. He crumpled them up and threw them across the room. What was he thinking? Getting engaged this young! What if the news breaks? That could permanently damage us? I'm not deaf. I heard the yelling!
