Taylor was looking around his room. It was a disaster, a complete and utter mess. “Ok, time to start cleaning.” He said aloud. As long as he was being punished mine as well do something to lighten the sentence . . . possibly. He took the sheets off his bed to put those in the washer. He ripped off the plastic cover sheet and a notebook feel out onto the floor. It definitely was not his. What is this doing in here?” He picked it up and flipped it open. He skimmed it to get an idea of whose it was. Taylor started laughing, “oh my! This is the greatest possibly blackmail ever!” He kept laughing and put the notebook in the closet so its owner couldn’t find it. This put him in a much better mood. He once again kept going with the cleaning singing as he went along.
Sarah was sitting at her desk finishing her Pre-Cal assignment. Damn, they assign 10 problems that take about 10 hours. She sighed as she finished the equation. Oh yeah, I just love Mondays. She thought sarcastically dreading the next day. She sat there and she started to have an attack. Her heart started to constrict and contract rapidly and than would stop for two seconds and than start again. Her breathing became less and less. She fell off her desk chair in extreme pain and fear. She started to black out. She tried to inch her way to the nightstand that held her phone. She gasped and kept trying to pull herself with her hands that way. She couldn’t reach the receiver so she yanked on the twirled cord. Both receiver and cradle came tumbling down with a bang. She was shaking and ready to pass out. She pressed the speed dial button what she thought was 911.
Zac was tearing his room apart one by one trying to find his journal. He was swearing under his breath and charging around like a yeti. In the midst off all then noise he was making he heard the telephone ring. He stormed out into the hall and picked up the phone. “Hello?” All he heard was some rasping. “Hello? Is this some kind of prank? And where did you get this number?” “Zac.” Was all the caller could say at the moment. “Who is this?” The call was freaking him out. He didn’t know who the caller was. “Help me, 911, my heart.” Immediately Zac knew who it was. “Sarah! What’s wrong?” Taylor heard this and came opened his door. “What’s wrong with Sarah?” “I don’t know!” Zac said all panicky. Tay grabbed the phone away from his younger brother. “Sarah, what’s wrong?” “911 . . . my heart . . . help me.” And that’s when he no longer heard her gasping. He heard absolutely nothing at all. “SARAH!” He screamed into the phone but heard nothing. Taylor hung up the phone and dialed 911. He told them her address. He hung up and grabbed Zac’s arm. “Come on, the minute Isaac walks in the door we’re heading to the hospital.” Tay grabbed a pair of tennis shoes and Zac grabbed his Docs and they ran down to wait into the kitchen.
Ike pulled the car into the garage. The minute he parked it his brothers came running out of the house. “Ike, turn the car back on.” “No, I’m not getting into any more trouble than I’m already in.” “No Ike, we paged Mom and told her what happened and gave us permission.” “You told Mom what happened?” “Ike, get to the hospital. There is something wrong with Sarah’s heart. We had to call 911 from the house.” Ike quickly gunned the engine and backed out almost forgetting to close the garage door.
They got the first hospital wrong and were heading to St. John’s. They ran out and slid trying to stop in the lobby. “There was a girl, Sarah, we were told she came here.” The receptionist looked up, “yes, she’s still being worked on. She was DOA (Dead on Arrival) but happen to be revived half way here.” Ike gasped and didn’t say anything. Taylor and Zac were freaked out. “Is she ok?” “It’s too early to know. But the minute the doctors are done and come out I’ll have them tell you what’s the matter. But right now I need you to contact her parents. We couldn’t find the places where they worked.” Taylor grabbed the phone book on the counter and all three of them sat down around the lobby phone and Ike picked it up. “Read me the phone number Tay.”
They checked their watches, it had been about 45 minutes and still no one had come out yet. Her parents could be contacted and they were trying to get out of work and would be there as soon as they possibly could. Zac looked up, “there they are.” Ike stood up along with Taylor but Zac stayed sitting. Her mother looked like she was going into hysterics. “Where’s my daughter?” “She’s still being worked on. We haven’t heard anything quite yet.” Both of her parents sat down. Two minutes later a doctor came out. All 5 of them became alert. The doctor whispered something to the woman behind the desk. He walked over to the 5 of them and all of them stood up. The doctor looked rather somber. “Are you Sarah’s parents?” “Yes.” They said in unison. “When your daughter came is she was originally DOA.” Her parent’s eyes just about bugged out of their eyes. “They were able to revive her half way here. She has been taking her medication. But it just isn’t working. She’s rejecting the heart.” “Well, what happens then?” Zac asked. “Unless we can find another heart she’s going to die within a matter of weeks.” All the blood drained from their faces.
