Chapter 35

Sarah was lying out in the backyard. It had been a week since they got back. So far there were no more attacks and she forgot about them. The scar had finally healed slightly which was nice and the stitches were out. It took a lot for her to burn so she put sunblock on the scar to even it out with a tan. She listened to The Offspring on her CD player outside. And next to her was her necklace. She closed her eyes and was wondering how Hanson was doing.

Ike pulled up in Micky’s driveway to pick her up. They were going to go out to eat for lunch. He figured this is when he was going to tell her he didn’t like her that way and that he seriously just wanted to be friends with her because she was really awesome and a great listener. Micky bounded out of the house wearing a gray and white argyle skirt, white blouse over a gray sports bra. She hopped in the car. She leaned over and kissed him, “hey babe! So where exactly are we going?” “I don’t know, where would you like to go?” “Um, whatever.” “Well what’s your favorite place to eat?” She grinned, “Johnny Rockets but they don’t have one of those here.” ** author’s note: if you guys have one in your city and you’ve NEVER eaten there you absolutely have to go. It is really good! And if you go visit a city that has one GO! ** “Well, do you want to go to the mall or something?” Ike asked pulling out. “Sure, we can go really healthy and eat ice cream!” Ike laughed, “doesn’t bother me.” And he headed to the mall the fast way. He felt extremely bad for this, really honestly really did, he like Micky a lot. Just, well, not in the way he did for Sarah. They got there about 10 minutes later and Micky yawned. He looked at her, “tired?” “I’m not sleepy tired just my body is pooped out.” Ike nodded, “oh yeah baby! Front parking space! Am I awesome or what?” Micky just started cracking up, “you are just so manly!” “Yeah, don’t you know it!” She shook her head playfully and got out of the car with him. “TCBY?” “You betcha! After all a girl has to keep that girlish figure.” Micky said batting her eyelashes like she had an eyelash in them. Both of them started cracking up and he realized this was going to be a LOT harder than he thought.

Sarah flipped over and grabbed the spray bottle and sprayed water over herself. She turned down the music and heard the phone ring. “Hello?” “Hello, is Sarah there?” “This is she, who’s this?” There was a cough. “It’s Nick.” She didn’t say anything and was going to hang it up before she stopped. “What do you want?” “I’m sorry I didn’t get chance to talk to you any sooner but it was really hard trying to track you down. I really didn’t know your last name and stuff.” “Quit babbling, what do you want?” There was a very long pause. “Sarah, I’m so very sorry for what happened.” “Don’t waste your time Nick, it’s done and over.” He didn’t expect that kind of reaction. “No, I really have wanted to say this. I am really sorry for what I have done. And I understand if you never want to see . . .” “you mean talk to you ever again. I’m glad you do.” “I deserved that.” “Really, what tipped you off?” She said sarcastically hoping for one of her friends to call and interrupt with call waiting. “I should probably get going right now anyway. We have a show tonight, is it alright if I call you later?” “What for?” “I don’t know, I just felt like talking.” Sarah sighed and gave in, “yes Nick, it’s ok. I’ll talk to you later ok?” His mood perked up a little. “Ok, bye Sar!” She hung up the phone.

The phone rang again. She picked it up, “yeah?” Thinking it was Nick. “Sarah?” “Oh hey Kendall, what’s shaking?” “Nothing much, I’m just curious, have you been watching the news at all?” “No, I’ve been laying out, why?” “I think Cass was pregnant!” Sarah just about fell out of the chair. “Why do you say that?” “Because, some paparazzi waiting for another celeb to come out of an abortion clinic got on tape JC and Cassandra. I wonder what in the heck was going on with that?” Sarah just about passed out. “Do they know about this?” “Well, if they didn’t they are going to find out because they showed the tape to a bunch of girls donning Nsync shirts and showed them the tape and asked them what they thought was with this. After they were done spacing out they started going off on how they can afford to raise a kid and all that other garbage and started going pro-life on those two. Do you think she got an abortion? Did you even know that she was pregnant?” Sarah certainly didn’t know what to say. “Babe, I don’t know. Do you think it’s possible that she was pregnant?” Kendall paused, “well Lance didn’t say anything on the phone last night about her being pregnant.” This also took Sarah by surprise. “You called him?” You could almost feel the heat of her cheeks come through the phone. “No, he called him.” Sarah whistled, “nice job, how old is he again?” “20!” She said almost too gladly. “He’s a little over 2 years older than you!” Like Sarah should be talking. “Point is?” Sarah didn’t say anything, “nothing, it’s great, I’m happy for you.” Kendall giggled, “I will always be forever grateful to you. For taking me to Michigan, thank you so much.” Sarah grinned, “no biggie. I’ll talk to you later?” “Oh yeah, you bet you are, and let me know if you hear anything I don’t about this ‘situation’. Talk to you later Sarah.” And she hung up the phone before she even got to say goodbye.”

Ike and Micky sat down. Ike pulled on a baseball cap and hung it low. For two reasons really. One the fans and the other because he didn’t want to see the look on Micky’s face when he let this blow. She took a bite of her chocolate covered with sprinkles and gummi bears. “Micky, I have to tell you something pretty important but I don’t want you to say anything until I’m done.” The stopped chewing and looked at him, she swallowed and put down the ice cream. “You want to break up don’t you?” Ike looked partially stunned and the other relieved. “Yes, how did you know?” She just looked at him “It’s a chick thing. I swear its intuition.” Ike nodded, “yeah, well, ok.” She half grinned, “I guess I should be upset about this and surprised but I guess I could see this one coming.” Ike lifted his hat a little “you aren’t upset are you?” She looked at him, “what do you think?” “Ok, skip that.” Ike leaned back and didn’t say anything. Finally Micky spoke up, “well, can we at least hang out and still be friends?” Ike smiled, “absolutely! You are the greatest person to talk to and you are an awesome listener.” She grinned and stood up, “I’ll be right back . . . nature calls!” And walked off and left Ike to start on his ice cream. The minute she got into the empty bathroom she burst out into shoulder racking sobs. They shook her whole body and tears soaked her clothes. She sat there for about ten minutes and realized she’d better get back out there before he started to think anything. She walked back out to the mirrors. She pulled out her compact and applied foundation and powder underneath her eyes and powdered the rest of her face. She looked a little red but the powder did a good enough job. The wet shirt on the other hand was the problem. She walked out and sat back down. “Took you long enough. Fall in?” She laughed, “no, there were only 4 stalls and 10 women were waiting.” “Why is your shirt all wet?” “Cause, while washing my hands some little 6 year old decided to have the fun with the sink and turned it on full force and sprayed some of the water at me while her mother was using the bathroom.” “I feel your pain.” I’m sure you do
