Smoke burned their lungs greatly and wondering where in the hell Zac was going to lead them. They crawled following him praying that he didn’t get them killed. The pain from their skin was taken away by the intense smoke and their eyes burning from it. The floor was unusually getting warmer and they knew it was a matter of time before the fire reached and burned them. “Zac!” Taylor coughed out, “where are we going?” Zac couldn’t reply. The smoke getting thicker made their sight of each other get less and less visible. “Isaac!” Zac screamed when he lost sight of his brother, “I’m here!” Isaac said and then had spasms of coughing. Zac reached the end to the room he wanted to go to. They stayed here once before and he remembered how these rooms were. He tried to open the door and it was locked. He kept jiggling it and it wasn’t working. Now panic seized his body and he didn’t know what to do. At the end of the hall to the right was a window. “COME ON!” Zac screamed and he brothers fearing of losing him grabbed on to him and ran following him. They reached the window and they hit the ground scared. Zac looked around and found a potted plant. He reached for it, picked it up, and broke the glass. The smoke flew out the window and Zac proceeded to brake the whole window. The whole window was as tall as he was and as wide and he was if he lay sideways. The brother’s got the idea and help him break the glass off. They leaned their heads out and to the sides to gulp in fresh air. Finally Taylor spoke up. “Block as many doors and vents as you can. We have to get the rest of them over here!” They broke away and smoke came billowing out of the window. The fire department saw that one window break and they had a squad ready to go up and get the “girls” they saw breaking the window.
Taylor broke the window on the opposite end of the hallway. He ran down the hall and ran into the door of a janitorial closet. Hi eyes crunched and he opened the door. He couldn’t believe they hadn’t thought of this earlier. In the closet was key to all the rooms on this floor. “ISAAC! ZAC!” Coughing their way over he showed them. They ran to each room that had windows and opened them. They then shut the doors. There were vents in all the rooms and two in the halls. If they did that they just then had to worry about the hall vents. They grabbed sheets and whatever they could and blocked the vents. They finished and Isaac ran to grab their family. He opened the door and could see the glowing flames. “MOM! DAD! JESSICA AVERY! MAC!” He ran out and screamed their names. The heat over whelmed him and he looked. He finally heard Jessica’s scream. He ran up the stairs and saw everyone crying and scared. There were about 30 people including their parents and managers. “COME ON! WE FOUND A WAY OUT!” Everyone followed them trying to stand clear of the heat, flames, and smoke. He ripped open the door and ushered them through. There was still black smoke but half after what the brothers had done reduced it. They ran over to the window where Taylor and Zac were already screaming for the department to get ready to have people jumping out and for them to get ready to carry some people out. Zac turned and saw Ike, “hurry! Get everybody out!” They started with everyone else and one by one helped them out. Each one hit the makeshift tramp and scurried off to let others come out. Isaac grabbed each of their hands and slowly lowered them as far as he could and let go. All but their father, Zoe, and the kids were left. “WE NEED A LADDER OVER HERE!” Screamed Isaac. The firemen quickly hurried. They carried down Zoe with the kids. Walker was about to jump when he hugged them. “I’m very proud of you guys.” And with that he jumped out. Next Ike helped Zac out and then Taylor. Isaac looked around making sure that no one else was left. That’s when he saw the flames coming closer that hands reaching for him. He gripped the frame of the window ready to climb out when the hot floor fell through. He screamed out and all of a sudden the floor was gone and he was hanging on the inside of the building. Looking down he saw flames ready to engulf his body and char it. “HELP!” He screamed, but the roar of the fire was too much and drowned out his screamed of help. Ike was scared thinking that this is how he was going to die, by burning in a fire. He yelled and yelled hoping someone out there would hear him.
Taylor turned around, “ISAAC!” Everyone saw Ike ready to climb out of the window and all of a sudden fall. “IKE!” Screamed his mother with tears falling down her cheeks. The firemen were trying to hurry and get the ladder ready to go. They started to make it longer to reach the window when it made a sickening whine and broke. “NO!” Screamed Zac, “save him please!” The firemen ran to another truck grabbing another ladder.
Isaac was slowly losing grip and he felt his body rising in temperature faster and faster. He would have started crying but realized he needed to be strong and think of something rational to do. He realized this was going to be the end and to just let go. On the count of 5 he was going to let go, 1 . . . 2 . . .”
He loosened his grip on four and felt something grab his wrist. He looked up and saw a fireman grabbed his arms. “Hurry! Climb over!” Ike tried but could lift a leg over. The guy helped him out and after about 5 minutes he was on the other end and people were screaming and cheering. Ike climbed down to the ground and sighed in relief. He looked at his brothers and him. All of them were covered in blisters from the sunburns and a little help from the fire. “HURRY! GET SOME MEDICS OVER HERE!” People screamed and Ike, tired, hit the ground and the outside world blackened.
All of the girls slept over at her house. It was jammed packed full of girls. Bored out of their mind of gossiping they figured they’d watch some TV. First was MTV, not liking Ultra Sound they flipped around some more and stopped on CNN. Kendall, Gina, and Mercedes groaned, “come on! I’d rather watch the weather channel.” Sarah stuck out her tongue, “fine.” She just about flipped off the TV but stopped, “what in the hell?” They all turned their attention to the TV wondering what had startled their friend.
Sarah did all that she could to blink back tears. “Marcy, does anyone have any idea how this terrible atrocity occurred?” “No Mark, but they are thinking that some of the wiring in some electrical devices in the basement or lobby might have started everything.” “Well, I hope they find out soon. How are the Hanson boys doing?” “Well, they suffered burns all over their bodies that had blistered. Just to think that those three young boys tried to save the lives of others over themselves. I just hope the eldest, Isaac, is ok. He was the one labeled in the most serious of condition.” “I know and we are all grateful for what they have done. Here are a few interviews of the people saved by the brave Hanson boys.” A middle-aged redhead woman came on shaking and crying going on and on about how they save their lives and how terrible she felt that they were hurt and she will always support them when they recover. Sarah was just stunned what was going to happen to her Isaac? It was like a slap in the face when she remembered he wasn’t her Isaac anymore. “Hey! Maybe we won’t hear that retarded Mmmbop song for awhile.” “No, Kathy, they will play it more because they are heroes. Both of them groaned and snickered. Sarah wanted to scream out at them for being selfish and stupid. She had never told them of her past and they hadn’t recognized her from the awards, which was even better. “You guys, knock it off. They saved people’s lives and you are sitting around making fun of them. That’s rude and very immature.” They just rolled their eyes and turned back to the TV. About 10 minutes later the bell rang. Confused and wondering whom it could be she got up, “I’ll be right back.” And she ran upstairs leaving her friends to change the channel on the TV. She opened the door and found a puffy eyed Micky standing on her doorstep. “Micky?” Micky looked at her and then hugged Sarah and startled her.
