About the Pastor

Pastor Shirley L. Johnson spent her early childhood in Wadesboro, NC, and moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1950. She has one brother and one sister. She is married to Deacon George R. Johnson, Sr., who except for Jesus Christ is the love of her life. They have nine children and numerous grands and great-grands.

Pastor Johnson is a graduate of Atkins High School. She received a Practical Nurse Vocational Diploma from Forsyth Technical Community College. She furthered her education at Winston-Salem State University, where she obtained a BS degree in Nursing. She graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into the Nursing Honor Society. She was chosen Who's Who in American Nursing for 1986-1987. She worked in the nursing profession for 30 plus years and retired from Forsyth Technical Community College as a Nursing Instructor in 1999.

Pastor Johnson has been saved since 1973 and was called into the Ministry in 1978. She was an associate minister at the St. Matthew Apostolic Church, where her brother Bishop Joseph P. Lowery is the pastor. While there she served as president of the Senior Missionary Department, Adult Sunday School Teacher, sang in the Spiritual Choir, and served on the Pastor's Aide and Willing Workers Auxiliaries. She was the business secretary for the church and Director of the church day care center until it closed in December 1999. She also performed many other duties. Pastor Johnson held these positions some 19 years until the Lord called her to a higher level.

Pastor Johnson attended classes, seminars and workshops to enhance her ministry. She began pastoring the New Horizon Apostolic Church April 2, 2000. Pastor Johnson does missionary workshops, seminars on health issues and other workshops.

Pastor Johnson has traveled far and near preaching and teaching the Gospel, she loves the Lord, and her neighbor as herself. She is loved and respected by the young and old. Her motto is "Have Bible, will travel". Her favorite saying is "I am on my way to Heaven and enjoying the trip".
