Chapter Nine -- I Can Love You Like That
THE NEXT MONTH -- IN THE HOSPITAL
"Suki... come on, tell me about the truth please..." Jim asks.
"Gosh Jim... you had been asking me the same question over and over again... I really don't know..." Suki sighed.
"Didn't Lori tell you anything about her and that Backstreet Boy?"
"No Jim..."
"Good morning everyone." Lori says happily.
"Morning Lori." Suki and Jim say.
Suki drags Lori away and says, "Lori, Jim had been bugging me about you and Nick Cater.. he's so annoying." Suki says.
"I'm sorry Suki." Lori says.
"It's k Lori... you're my best pal... but didn't you tell him about it already?" Suki asks.
"Yea... but he don't trust me..." Lori sighed.
AFTER A 18 HOUR SHIFT
RING RING
"Hello?" Lori picks up her cell phone.
<hi baby... how are you doing?> Nick says sweetly.
"Where are you now Nick?"
<I'm still in New York... you miss me?>
"What do you think? Haven't see you for a month... " Lori says.
<I miss you too... so where are you now, in the hospital?> he asks.
"I'm on my way home... Suki is driving now... and you know what?"
<What?> Nick asks.
"Jim's car is behind us. He said he wanna bring us to dinner. So he's following us home, and probably he's gonna stick around in my house til dinner time comes and we will all go out." Lori sighed.
<Did you tell him about me?> Nick asks.
"Heck ya! But he don't believe me.. he said you're just my excuse..."
<I gotta do something about it... you home yet?> Nick asks.
"Almost... well actually ya... we just pull over in front of my house." Lori says.
<Now... baby.... get off the car and look across the street.> Nick hangs up.
Lori gets off the car and look across the street, there she sees Nick getting out from his car with a little puppy in his arms.
"Hi Lori... " Nick says as he walks over to Lori, Suki and Jim.
"Nick?" Lori throws herself into his arms.
They enter the house afterwards.
"This puppy is for you... you can name her whatever you want..." Nick smiles.
"How about ... hmm... Winky?" Lori says.
"That's good baby... hey... don't you need to introduce your friends to me?" He smiles.
"This is Suki, my best pal... and Jim, my colleague." Nick shakes hands with them.
"Nice to meet you guys. Please help me to take care of my baby girl when I'm not around..." Nick says.
"No problem!" Suki says.
"Let me go get a drink for everybody..." Lori says as she walks towards the open-kitchen, Nick follows.
"I thought you were in New York.. you liar..." Lori says as she pours the drinks.
"You said you miss me... I wanna surprise you..." Nick says as he puts his arms around Lori's waist.
"I like that..." Lori puts her arms around his neck and leans forward to kiss him.
Jim is on the way to the bathroom when he passes the kitchen. When he sees Nick and Lori kissing, he has a really hard feeling, but he knows he has to give up.
For the rest of the night, Lori cherishs every second and every minute with Nick. He's going back to New York the next morning.
