| Pinecrest’s 3-2 victory at Scotland County on Monday was the girls’ soccer team’s 59th conference victory in a row. This one didn’t come easy. Tied at 2-2 late in regulation, the Scots’ Megan Brigman took a shot that bounced off the post of the Patriot goal. That was how close she came to scoring her third goal of the night, and ending the Patriot winning streak. The Patriots won the match on a goal by Latanya Cain with about four minutes left in the second overtime period. Her second goal of the night came off a ball played over the top of the Scot defense by Ann Fields. Cain opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of the match. About midway through the first half, Fields connected off a pass from Cain, making it 2-0. Brigman scored her first goal just before halftime and then evened the match with a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half. Patriot goalkeeper Katelyn Burwell recorded nine saves in the match. In March of 2002, Pinecrest lost 1-0 at Scotland and then played to a 0-0 tie at home against Richmond County. Those were the Patriots’ last non-winning games in Mid-Southeastern Conference play. Pinecrest (4-2) entertains Richmond County tonight, starting with the junior varsity contest at 5:30 p.m. The Patriot jayvee team (3-2) defeated the Scots 9-0 on Monday.
