Friday night at the John Williams Athletic Complex the Pinecrest boys' soccer team beat a determined squad from Lee County 2-1.
     Pinecrest improved to 7-1-0.
At eight minutes Coby Kavanaugh got off a laser from the near side that just slid by the post. Seven minutes later freshman Thomas Goulden would cross to the six-yard line for a Kavanaugh header that just cleared the crossbar.
A minute later a Russell Stewart effort would be deflected just wide.
Glenn Holmes, in net for Pinecrest, would also be tested as a Yellow Jacket escaped down the endline and fired from point-blank range, but the Pinecrest keeper managing to hang on.
Junior Tyler Dawson would finally open up the scoring at the 27-minute mark. He converted a Jim Hobbs free kick for the game's first goal.
Lee County would tie in the 35th minute.
The Patriots kept the pressure up as the second half began and were quickly rewarded.
Two minutes in, a restart pass over to Stewart was lofted down the middle where Matt Sessoms flicked a header that the Jacket goalkeeper could not hold onto. The ball rebounded to Brandon Zoellner, who fired past the keeper to the far post for a 2-1 Pinecrest advantage.
The Patriot defense would be the story for the remainder of the game, with veterans Jim Hobbs, Silas Cole and Charlie Davis frustrating the Lee County attack by playing the offside trap.
The Pinecrest jayvees were firmly tested by Lee, falling behind 2-0 after 35 minutes. Max Brenner would net two second-half goals for the home side for the eventual 2-2 draw.
