(Continued) A penalty kick that gave Douglas Byrd its only score in Wednesday’s match ended a Patriot string of 11 shutout wins but did little to repel the Patriot attack. Pinecrest had six scorers in an exercise that saw the Patriots punch holes in the Byrd defense from all angles. Gironda recorded a hat trick and Grasso racked up two goals for Pinecrest. Aaron Sprinkle, moved up from the junior varsity squad, recorded his first varsity goal on a penalty kick. Stewart, White and Ransdell added goals to top out the total. Pinecrest finishes at 14-0 in the league and advances to 18-3-1 overall. The Patriots have earned a bye in the first round of the state playoffs and will host the first-round winner of the match between the Two Rivers Conference third-place finisher and a 4-A East wild card team. Playoffs begin on Wednesday, Nov. 2, with finals set for Nov. 19 at SAS Soccer Park in Cary. <-Previous 10-24-05 vs Seventy-First (W, 6-0) 10-27-05 at East Chapel Hill (W, 2-1) Next-> |
