(Continued)      Saturday's contest with Hoggard came close to being a scoreless duel as both teams traded challenges for 70 minutes before Hoggard slipped a shot past Pinecrest keeper Jonathan Shute to tip the balance for the 1-0 Viking victory.      Martin praised both teams, commenting that the game was "an even match between two evenly matched teams. The game took place from 18 to 18. We didn't get any breaks, but it was still a great game."      Martin said that "neither game provided an ideal situation for Pinecrest, but we have a better team - not a better record - but a better team as a result. We gain a lot playing tough competition and we're not going anywhere without going through one of these teams."      Pinecrest's record goes to 1-3-1. After traveling to Pine Forest Tuesday, the Patriots host Fayetteville Academy Thursday at 7:30 p.m.      In junior varsity action, Pinecrest deadlocked New Hanover 1-1 and suffered its first loss of the season in a 1-0 contest with Hoggard.      In Friday's match, New Hanover struck first with a shot off the right corner of the box at the 20-minute mark. Andy Tagliareni knotted the score at 1-1 five minutes later. Marco Gironda had the assist.      Saturday, against Hoggard, a long bomb off the right side exceeded airborne goalkeeper Marshall McIntosh's grasp to give the Hoggard squad a 1-0 edge.      The Pinecrest jayvee record is 3-1-1. The team plays at home against Fayetteville Academy at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
