PART 2

As the three girls walk to the creek Sam asks, "Bess?"
"Yes?" Bess answers.
"Did you ever learn how to swim?" Sam finishes her question.
"No," Bess answers simply.
Sam frowns, then looks at Nan hopefully, "Can you swim, Nan?" she asks.
"Yes," Nan replies, she looks at Sam and smiles catching on to the idea.
Bess observes her two friends who are grinning mischievously, "What are you two grinning about?" she demands.
"Well, we were thinking," falters Sam.
"And," coaxes Bess.
"And, we thought now would be a perfect time for you to learn how to swim," finishes Nan still grinning.
"Oh, no you don't," says Bess hesitating, "I'll learn when I'm ready."
"Of course you will", says Sam with that same mischievous grin. Bess was beginning to wonder if coming to the creek was such a great idea after all. With friends as mischievous as these two, who knows what could happen!

"Hey, Dan," calls Nat to his friend, "Have you caught anything yet?"
"Nope. Not yet," answers Dan reeling in his line.
"How 'bout you, Tommy," Nat asks.
"No, what about you?" Tommy calls back.
"Hmmm, lets see here," says Nat making a show of counting his fish, "Six."
"Show off", mutters Emil.

"So, that's Dan, that's Emil, that's Jack, that's Tommy, and that's Nat?" says Sam pointing to each boy as she said their name. The three girls were hiding behind some bushes on the edge of the creek, Nan helping Sam figure out which boy goes with what name, and Bess, thinking of some trick they could surprise the boys with.
"Nope, wrong," corrects Nan, "That's Nat and that's Tommy."
"Oh, now I've got it!" exclaims Sam at her success.
"I've got it!" declares Bess.
"I just said that," says Sam puzzled.
"Sam, can you still swim like you used to?" asks Bess.
"Like I used to." repeats Sam, "No."
"Oh," says Bess with a sigh, "then my great idea won't work."
"I can swim even better," Sam says with her mischievous grin.
"Perfect!" Bess exclaims happily, "Alright, here's what we do..."
