Juicer Demo

Step-by-step Lemon Juicer Throwing Demonstration

This page shows a movie of how to throw a lemon juicer.

The movie will load while you read through the steps.

This form is very similar to a double-walled bowl.
For that form, leave much more clay on the outer ring
to make a large closed bowl bottom.

Following, there are stills of Specific Steps, and details to help you work.

SPECIAL CENTERING

To Center, begin with a mound that is low and wide.

SPECIAL OPENING I

Open a channel about three inches from the center.

SPECIAL OPENING II

Open the inner mound all the way to the wheel head.

SPECIAL OPENING III

Pull opening about 2 and a half inches out and re-center Reamer.

PULL REAMER

Pull normally into small bottle shape.

CLOSE IN REAMER

With very wet hands, make a triangle with your fingers and squeeze the reamer closed at the top.

TRIM REAMER

Trim excess clay from top with needle tool. It is normal for unevenness to migrate to the top when choking in a bottle. But you have to cut it off to finish it.

CLOSE OVER REAMER

Close the reamer completely. This will trap air inside the reamer; this stabilizes the inner part so that it is harder to accidentally ruin it.

SHAPE REAMER

Run a rib up the side in a spiral, by bringing it up "too" fast.

PULLING/SHAPING WALLS

Pull walls normally, to a height slightly higher than the reamer if you want to trim the bottom.

SPECIAL FINISHING

For the pouring spout: hold two fingers on the outside of the wall and pull one wet finger through from the inside.

A normal size lemon juicer is about a two pound project.

Email me if you have questions or comments.

Painting the finished piece with lemons and leaves is especially pretty.

I hope you enjoy this project, it might be a challenge.
