ROBERT B. THOMAS

Robert B. Thomas was born Jul 1839, the son of David Thomas and his second wife named Mary. He was listed in his father's will in 1844. In the 1850 Chester County SC census, R. B. Thomas is listed as eleven years old and living at the house of his mother. Likely prior to enlisting for service in the war, Robert married first Elizabeth Nunn b. 1843. He enlisted in the CSA 6th Reg, SC Volunteers where he served under Captain Obediah Hardin. In 1870, the Chester County Census indicates that Robert Thomas and family were living beside the 57 year old James Kirkpatrick.

Deeded 24 Sep 1874 and registered 3 May 1875, John T. Hall, Margaret Hall, McGriff Brakefield, John BrakeField, Alexander Brakefield, Mary Brakefield, Adeline Revels, and Sarah Brakefield sold their interests in a certain tract of land containing 142 acres to James M. Kirkpatrick. Situated on Susy Boles Creek, the land adjoined that of Dr. Givens, Jasper Grant, John Grier, James Atkinson, Robert Coln and McGriff Brakefield. The deed states the lands "formerly belonged to David Thomas now deceased--- and the interest of the grantees therein being derived through Wm Brakefield now deceased to whom in his lifetime Robert Thomas and Margaret Tidwell children and devisees of said David Thomas conveyed their interest to wit: the two-sixths part of the said lands". In other words, Robert and Margaret conveyed their shares of the David Thomas estate to William Brakefield. Following his death in the civil war, the heirs of William Brakefield sold the land to James M. Kirkpatrick. This deed (WW-520, Chester SC) indicates that Robert B. Thomas conveyed his interest in his father's estate to William Brakefield. Other records of that particular transaction have yet to be found.

Elizabeth Nunn Thomas died between 1878 and 1880. She is buried at Armenia Methodist Church in Chester County.
