Built for Clyde shipping in 1976 . She has had an interesting career, with a minor grounding off Dumbarton in July 1993 and sinking in the Kyle of Lochalsh.

She sank in 7m on the 6th April 1995 in good weather after striking a rock. No crew were injured. She was raised, repaired and later towed to the Clyde. She has remained inactive, and in a poor state, ever since. Currently at James Watt Dock, Greenock. She is up for sale at $175,000.

Clyde shipping was bought over by Cory Towage in June 1995. Cory Towage then sold her to Reid Heavy Life Marine and then resold her to Barcazas Dominicia SA, Dominican Republic in 1999.

Henry Robb built 5 ships of this type 517/518 Duchary/Boquhan both for Grangemouth and Forth Towage. Duchary , renamed Edie Rex,is now operated by the Eide Group, Norway and Boquhan, renamed Oliver, is now being used in West Africa as a fisheries chase vessel and currently up for sale at £225,000.

526/527 Bajima/Burutu were built for the Nigerian Port Authority and believe to be still there. They were both 4 m longer than the other ships in the class.

Flying Childers unlike her sister ships was not fitted with fire fighting equipment.
