Edelweiss Pirates

The Storyline

In 1942, Hans applies for a job with the Gestapo but is rejected, based on his poor health and limited education.

A short time after, he falsely represents himself as a member of the Gestapo in order to obtain a room for himself and his girlfriend. The suspicious hotel receptionist reports him to the Gestapo, who comes to arrest him. They torture him and send him to a concentration camp near Cologne, where he is assigned to disarm bombs. Hans hides in the backyard of an apartment building. Zilly, a pretty young mother of two, and the sole remaining residents of the bombed-out building, finds Hans and agrees to hide him.

Soon, Hans and Zilly fall in love.

Zilly is a close friend of a group, known as the Edelweiss Pirates, who engage in various, minor, anti-Nazi activities and fight against the Hitler Youth.

Hans, who hates the Nazis after his experience in the concentration camp, wants to do far more than that. He plans to blow up the Gestapo headquarters in Cologne. With the help of the Pirates, he gets money from a black market deal and uses part of it to lay in a cache of weapons and explosives.

Zilly is opposed to Hans' plan ...
