Presently I am employed by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (Sabah) as an Assistant Valuation Officer in the Valuation Section of the Ministry. The Ministry consists of a few sections and the main role of the Ministry is to act as an 'overseer' to the local authorities in the state of Sabah. You can say the role is more 'administrative' than 'technical'.
In general, the Malaysian system of government consists of three parts; first is the Federal Government, followed by the State Government and finally the local governments. These local governments are the local authorities such as the city council, municipal councils and district councils. In the state of Sabah there are 22 local authorities, and the Ministry 'oversee' these authorities mainly to ensure the functions and the actions of these local authorities are in line with the state Government's policy.
Where else, the main objective of the Valuation Section (for more details on the Valuation Section click here .) is to create a 'rating system' which is dynamic and effective, in line with the provisons provided in the Local Government Ordinance, 1961.
