A new cyclepath linking Nantgarw with Taff's Well was officially opened on 23 October 2001. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Councillor Larraine Jones and Councillor Adrian Hobson.

The new path is called the Walnut Tree extension to the existing Taff Trail and provides easier access for walkers, cyclists and disabled users. Thanks to a new bridleway through Rockwood the route can also be used by horse riders.

Councillor Hobson said;

"There is a big investment by the Council which has helped create a green route between Nantgarw and Taff's Well. I hope it will become well used. I am also asking the police to ensure that there are adequate patrols in the area.

It was nice to see the Police horses at the opening ceremony and I hope we see them in the area more often. there is also an opportunity to use cycle mounted Police to patrol the cyclepath.
