The main purpose of this interview is just to add a few more matches to my "favourites" list, and to talk a bit about my pro debut.

Tell us a little about your professional debut. Okay, here's the story. We were at the after-party of an ASW show (9/6/02) in Langley, at a billiards place, when Lenny D and myself asked the owner of ASW, Fabio, if we could be at the next show. We (Lenny & I) had toyed with the idea for a little whlie, and we mutually agreed that we were ready to give a professional show a shot. Anyway, we talked to Fabio, and being the nice guy he is, he said we could do it. He said we'd have to sell 30-40 tickets in order to justify putting us on the show rather than the people who had put down $2000 to train with ASW, which is understandable. So, we sold some tickets and went to some training sessions, and figured most everything out. We were asked to work a style of match we really hadn't worked before: about 10 minutes long (as opposed to the ~20 minutes we're used to), and they wanted us to basically memorize the entire match, which was something new to us. We tried to adapt, though. The day came (10/26/02), and we were pretty nervous (it being our first time in front of a real crowd and all), but at the same time, fairly confident that we'd do okay, seeing as we had gone over the match quite a few times. Onto the match: the very first strike I threw (a punch out of a wristlock, which was a nifty little spot), totally smoked Lenny and busted him open. We were planning to be our usual stiff selves, but not that stiff. Almost immediately after, I saw that his mouth was bleeding, so I went really light on my strikes for the rest of the match. It was apparently pretty noticeable live, but luckily it didn't come off too bad on tape. Anyway, the match went as we had planned, we didn't blow anything, and I ran the ropes better than usual, so I was happy overall. After the show, we went to the after-party at the billiards place once again, and good times were had by all. After that, I got the privilege of driving home a slightly inebriated Kenny Lush, and on the way, we filmed Jackass Canada. For those who don't know, Kenny Lush is an ASW worker, and is just about the coolest guy in the world. |
