"The team changed into their scarlet robes and waited for Wood's usual pre-match pep talk..."
-'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'

Quidditch robes are the ultimate robe. No, I'm just saying that cause all my favorite characters play Quidditch. *sighs* A certain dark haired Keeper... *starts* Just kidding. (Karly: No she's not...)

Anyway, Quidditch robes are really important. I mean, just read the books (or see the movie... *giggles* Just as a note, anyone else notice that girl on the Slytherin team? To recall- "The Slytherin team had no girls". She said it herself. So there. Ha. Sorry, had to get that out.) I mean, a lot of important events happen during Quidditch matches in the books and movie! (Like Oliver-watching... the newest Olympic sport- Argh! Sorry! Bad Little Corinthian!) So, of course, you have to make some good Quidditch robes. (All other instructions for making Quidditch equipment can be found here)

Take either an already made choir, graduation, etc robe and add the trimmings, or take a new pattern (I suggest Simplicity's #9372 for children and McCall's #3339 for adults [ just make sure your sleeves and hem are short enough that they won't hamper your movement!] ) and make it in the color of your choice, adding trimmings, emblems, etc. I've made a chart for team names, colors, etc to make it easier for you. Gryffindor and Slytherin designs came from the movie, the League teams colors and designs came from 'Quidditch Through the Ages' (the mini textbook), and Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw's designs came from my own brain, based on the other houses. (not really that hard to figure out :0P )

Well, there you have it!

For emblems and crests, take some of that iron on fusible printer paper, print out (or design) the crest you want, and iron it onto your robes. I suggest actually ironing it onto a spare piece of fabric from the main robes so that when it wears down (if you wash it a lot, it will crack) you can detach it and print a new one. If you REALLY want it to be authentic, either have yourself or someone you know (Grandma!) cross stitch the emblem onto the robe. That'd be really cool! People who have embroidery sewing machines, try it! I'd like to see it!

For Quidditch robes, I bet it would be fun to get some of those iron on adhesive letters and stick 'em across the back to spell out your last name or your favorite character's last name! Our Halloween robes are going to have Johnson, Bell, Spinnet, Weasley, Weasley (we've got people dying their hair red for that :0P), Wood, and Potter on the backs. Remind me to put up pictures when I get them made!

As always, PICK THE COLOR AND FABRIC YOU AND ONLY YOU WANT FOR YOUR COSTUME. I cannot stress this enough. I've had many people come up to me and say "Well, I'd LOVE this costume, but I don't like the color, so I'll find a different one!" No, No, NO! Your costume, your fabric. And trimmings and ties and hats and wigs and WHATEVER, alright!? And DO NOT, UNDER ANY CURCUMSTANSES, ALLOW YOUR PARENTS TO PICK THE COLOR OF THE FABRIC FOR YOUR COSTUME FOR YOU, AS MUCH AS THEY MIGHT HATE ME FOR SAYING THIS. Parents who might be reading this, I know you've got great tastes, but as I know from personal experience, anything you say could influence your kids to pick a different color than what they originally wanted, and it could ruin the fun of wearing the costume for them. So don't act all upset if they pick the electric green broadcloth over the nice pretty rose patterned velvet you like. They're the ones wearing the costume, it should be their choice. But kids, if it's not for a costume, but for an outfit for something like a wedding or church or Christmas or something, they get final say, alright?

(An added note, though, cause my mum will kill me if I don't say this- your mom probably does know what kind of fabrics will work, so do listen to her if you want her to every buy your fabric for you again, kk?) (*smooches, Mummy!*)
