"Bludger- Nasty little buggers"

-'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'

(don't make me say who the quote is by...)

So, now you've spent all that time on making your Quidditch robes (or, atleast, Grandma sure did!), you've convinced six of your friends to join you in creating your own Quidditch team, and you've actually found another team to play against! Then it hits you- you don't have any Quidditch equipment! You knew you forgot something! No wonder you haven't been able to get off the ground! Duh! You need brooms!

Not to worry, I've got hep for you.

There are a few basic peices of equipment that you need for any position. I suggest using the movie as a guide, I really like they way they did it. Here's my suggestions for production:

1) A broom (duh.) For a broom, the one you have in your closet will work. If you really want to be authentic (or you just have too much time on your hands (*raises hand*)) go find a big stick and tie/glue smaller, shorter sticks on the bottom. It looks cool, we did it for a different costume once!

2) Knee/shin pads. The rest of our trick or treating team wants to use egg-carton lids (LC: Not if I have anything to say about it) To do so, spray paint them brown (or black), and attach with duct tape. (Just watch the movie 'The Big Green'- that's what they do.) I bet soccer (football in UK) shin-guards would work too, either paint them brown or buy them black. What I want to do is sew pockets of brown felt, put padding in it, and sew seams down the middle to make movie-ish pads. Someday I might make and post instuctions for this- (LS: *coughs*notlikely!*coughs* LC: Shaddup...)

3) Arm/wrist guards. Egg-carton lids all the way. No, you can use that method, or sew padded felt again, or do something else that you think of. (Sorry, it's 1:16 in the morning, and I'm trying to get this done- besides, I bet you could think of a better method than I could! :0P)

4) Shoes (Please tell me you realized this already). Brown/black Keds, In the movie it looks like they use brown leather rugby shoes minus the cleats. You could try brown/black jazz sneakers or shoes, or just go to Valu-Village or other thrift stores and see what they've got- usually something good! I suggest the Low Top Capezio Canvas Dansneaker from Justforkix.com, either in black or get it in white and paint it.

5) Under-robe uniform- My favorite part- just kidding. In the movie, the teams wear a sweater in their team colors, and tan (khaki) corduroy pants. Pads are worn over sweater and pants.

Besides the items above, each position requires special gear, too. Oh boy, another chance for LC to make a table! Yay!

Chaser

Ball- Quaffle - A big red ball

Take one of those red playground balls (four square balls, I'm not sure if they have a real name) and voila!
Beater

Ball- Bludger(s) (medium sized black ball(s)

Beater Bats- Short clubs that look a bit like baseball bats

Bludgers- Since I don't think you'd want to hurt anyone, get small black Nerf balls (like their soccer ones- we have bout 6 of those floating around, spray paint 'em black)

Bats- Saw a wooden baseball bat in half, sand the top rim of the bottom half. Or, if you don't want to spend that much, I'd take about a foot of 2" think dowl and pad one end of it with foam, spray paint the whole thing brown, and if you want to make it look like the movie's bats, paint a black band around the middle- it's supposed to be iron.

Keeper
Nothing really, unless you want to make hoo- Bianca, don't even think about it. I do not want an entire quidditch stadium in your backyard. Your mother would never speak to me again.
:0P
Seeker
Ball- The Golden Snitch- A small golden ball with wings
Well, if you have as great a mother as I do (I use any excuse to suck up! :0P Love you, mum!) she would have gotten you the hollow snitch full of candy for last Easter (and you'd have it hanging in your room... God I love healthy obsessions :0P). If she didn't, get a golfball, attach foam, paper, or real feathers with crazy glue, and spray paint the whole thing gold. Ta da!

There you go! Have fun!
