Day 6: Shhhhhhhhhh!!!! Due to an unfortunate accident, helped along by the use of my bone, Tee will be taking some time off. I shall do my best to cover for her during her unfortunate, and untimely absence. I shall now sing for you the opening track from my favorite, and this most exquisite album, titled Rawhide Bone. Somewhere deep down inside of my heart/makes me feel things that tear me apart/Need my rawhide bone/Need my rawhide bone./Ever since you dropped into my life/Can't bear to feel you outta my mouth/Need my rawhide bone/Need my rawhide bone. /And I know I'm gonna chew you up/If I don't learn to lick you slow/But oooooooohhhhh you make me loose controoool/I was booooooorn to chew a rawhide bone. /I see heads turn as you lie in the room/I know what their thinkin' cause I'm thinkin it to/They want my rawhide bone/They want my rawhide bone..... AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! THUD!!!! Due to an unfortunate accident, helped along by a skillet, little Miss Nasty Attitude will be taking some lengthy time off. I shall do my best to cover for her during her fortunate and timely accident.

This would be the final album of original material Patty would do for MCA records. Up Against My Heart is a return to a more traditional sound for Patty than her previous two. This return can be credited, I believe, to the return of Emory Gordy Jr. as a co-producer, who left MCA records after her second release.promo37.jpg The traditional feel of this album is one that I personally feel was the direction Patty wanted from the beginning. When you listen to her albums with Epic records, you can hear how she has built upon this sound.

Unfortunately, even though this album is the best of her years with MCA, and my personal favorite, it still has not reached gold or platinum. Guess it is time to whip out the ole Patty visa card, it's accepted everywhere I am not. Patty has stated that this is her favorite album, for the simple reason it brought together her two favorite producers. I have always thought Tony and Emory the Ying and Yang of producers. Tony has a knack for picking radio friendly songs, and Emory can just flat out produce and arrange music. Together they brought out the best for and in Patty, but without Emory, a piece of the music was missing. Tony is a fine producer, don't get me wrong, but alone with Patty, that traditional sound that Emory brought was missing.

The first song is a real rocker called Jealous Bone, and Patty purrs through this with a set of rock-n-roll pipes that could equal some of the best female rockers. The remaining up tempo songs Nobody Love's You Like I Do, I Came Straight To You, and Watin' For The Phone To Ring are in the country vein. The last has the one and only Dolly Parton providing backing vocals, and they are rousing.

One of the most original songs on the album is one written by Lyle Lovett titled God Will. God comes in the form of a woman this time, whom Patty states will forgive her lover who has done her wrong, but she won't forgive him.

Patty can go from the rockers like Jealous Bone, to the loneliness of I Already Miss You, or a heartache that won't quit in If It's The Last Thing I Do, and pull out every ounce of emotion with a subtle word or phrase. As I said before, this is her best with MCA, and it is a must for the rabid or soon to be rabid Patty fan. Another advantage in buying this, is I would not have to run up another $6,356,429.00 credit card debt.

The final album released by MCA with no new material was her greatest hits. This album shows how MCA did not quite know how to promote Patty or her music, only 10 songs were included on this album. So while you are scanning over the Greatest Hits, I am going to put an ice pack on my head to take the swelling down.
