Day 10:
After only nine hours sleep and six cups of coffee, disorientation is
starting to set in. I am beginning to feel edgy, nervous, cannot
concentrate on the task at hand. I must focus on the task at hand, Patty
fans all over the world are depending on me to complete this task at
hand. Maybe another cup of coffee will help calm me down, so I can
complete this task at hand.
Patty's second album with MCA brought her two top ten singles, one of
those being a cover of the classic George Jones song If My Heart
Had Windows. For an artist to cover a classic country song,
especially one belonging to a legend, is a daunting task. Unfair
comparisons are made between the original recording and the new version.
They completely dismiss the fact that this new recording could bring
about a new appreciation for the original artist. You can find no fault
with Patty's cover of this song, the emotion and power she brings to
this song is equal, but not an imitation of the Patty's second cover was the Hank Williams song I Can't Get You Off Of My Mind. Sounding frisky on this cut, Patty once again covers a classic that is equal to the original, but not imitated. The most emotional and heartbreaking songs on the album, which Patty pours her heart out over, are A Little On The Lonely Side, and Baby's Gone Blues. This will be mentioned many times through our journey of the music, but Patty has this uncanny ability to go boldly where no one has gone before, to seek out new worlds, to discover the undiscovered recesses of my dark tortured mind.......no, wait......I am so sorry, that did not come out right. Patty has the ability to tap into the emotions of a lyric or a verse with such ease and natural feeling, that you just know it comes straight from the heart. From the plaintive soulful wail in these songs, to the feisty attitude of the second hit off this album, A Little Bit In Love, Patty brings to each song she sings a subtle phrasing, and strong emotion. Even though this song reached number two on the charts, If My Heart Had Windows is the more popular of the two. Patty closes the album by treading into pop territory with Fly Away, not one of my personal favorites, but she shows another side, which is, she can sing almost anything you put in front of her. I now have 228 hours left before the unveiling that Jess is so bound and determined to have. I feel the dark murky waters of reality and fantasy ebbing and flowing into one another, that separating the two has become almost impossible. The voices of the little trolls that live in my attic, are taunting me, mocking me, telling me to quit, to give up, for it is futile. But, never fear, Patty fans, I Am On Your Side, I shall Go On. If You Think I will leave you now You've Got Another Thing Comin. (Judas Priest) These Chains that bind my mind.....yeah yeah yeah, I know, yada yada yada. Next album, Honky Tonk Angel.
SpellCheker NotesWhen Patty was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on June 11, 1988, she was wearing a dress that was not new and was not originally hers. Now, I don't know where she got it or how this all came about but, the dress formerly belonged to Reba McEntire!! Patty says that "we just kind of made it over a little different." In other words, Patty wore a hand-me-down (her own words) to the biggest occasion of her career!!!
