"Music became significant for me at a very early age. I remember when I was younger, watching my uncle Brent rehearse songs with his acoustic. It struck a nerve in me and I thought, "That's what I want to do".
I used to make pretend drumsets out of pot lids, cardboard boxes, sticks, shoeboxes, and duct tape. I was always tapping on things and singing along with records or cutting out and drawing cassette tape cover designs or something like that.
I started a band with some friends in 6th grade, playing drums for them. It was fun for me. Music had become the antidote for small -town boredom. Back then I was really into Green Day, Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Aerosmith, Metallica, etc.
When I was about 14 and determined to learn how to play guitar, I borrowed an old acoustic guitar that belonged to my uncle Gus, and I started looking up the music for Nirvana songs. I bought a chord book from Spotts and I practiced all the time. Before I knew it I was filling notebooks with really random lyrics accompanied by simple bar-chord patterns.
The more I kept writing, the more I started to sound folkish and mellow. I think alot of it had to do with heavy listening of my uncle Brent and some artists he had recommended to me (Red House Painters, Elliott Smith).
I was in other bands here and there throughout my teens, but I think ultimately I enjoy writing and recording my own material. However, on occasion I still get a kick out of jamming with my old bandmates from the elementary days. As of now, I'm not really serious with music. I do it for fun. I like to record stuff alot, and I'm trying to get good at it.
Presently, I have a 5-song EP entitled Lack Of Productivity which I am hoping to sell, but I generously offer the songs for online listening to give you the sound upfront. I will eventually record my own full-length. Eventually..."
