Why: Simplified Song Interpretations: Boxing (lyrics)

The lyrical content is apparently based on Folds' own experiences as his father was a boxer. But perhaps the person who told me that was lying.

Perhaps they were, Mr. Feeny.  Ben's father may or may not have boxed at some point (though I've never heard that reported elsewhere), but he is a fan of boxing.  Ben has explained that while thinking about quitting music, he wrote a song about Mohammed Ali, who "quit so many times and made [Ben's] dad so damn mad."  (Howard, mentioned in the lyrics, is Howard Cosell.)
