NUMBERONE "Complicated" Avril Lavigne from Let Go (Arista) #1 For 2 Weeks
IN A RATHER SLOW WEEK, Avril Lavigne remains at No. 1 with "Complicated," despite yet again losing a significant number of points. Meanwhile, Nelly and Kelly Rowland crawl up just behind, gliding 6-2, pushing another rapper/singer collabo, Eve & Alicia Keys' "Gangsta Lovin'," back to 3. As well, Aimee Mann's "Humpty Dumpty" and John Mayer's "No Such Thing" make noticeable visits to the Top 10 -- the third for Mann (also the third to reach #7, coincidentally) and the first for Mayer. Elsewhere, the second single from Mayer's Room For Squares album, "Your Body Is A Wonderland," jumps from 56 to 47. The Top Debut is "Trade It All Part 2," by Fabolous, with assists from P. Diddy and Jagged Edge, at No. 43. Right behind him is the debut of Westlife's second J-SKWD charter, "World Of Our Own" ("Swear It Again" was the first, reaching #14 in the early summer weeks of 2000). Other newbies include Dixie Chicks' "Landslide" at No. 54, 3LW's "I Do (Wanna Get Close to You)" at 61, U2's "Electrical Storm" at 62, Faith Hill's "Cry" at 63 and Coldplay's "In My Place" at 64. Elsewhere, Tina Arena logs her 15th J-SKWD single, as "You Made Me Find Myself" (soon to be covered by LeAnn Rimes for her October album Twisted Angel) enters the list at #67. Kelly Clarkson (No. 68, see notes below) and Pink (No. 71) also have new contributions. AMERICA FINALLY PROVED LAST WEEK that, perhaps, people with respectable music tastes do in fact outnumber horny teenagers. As evidence, I offer the deserved victory of the aforementioned Kelly Clarkson over Justin Guarini in the American Idol finale. Clarkson actually charts this week, with a live version of "A Moment Like This," which strikes at No. 68. Look for the studio version to take over on the 22nd, when the commercial single (out 9/17) will first be eligible for chart tracking.
