If Mary Babcock lived to 1759 as most sources list, William Tanner would have had to divorce her to marry Elizabeth Colgrove, although there is no known record of such a divorce. More likely, this is a classic example of amateur genealogical hodgepodge.
The date of birth is clearly a very rough estimation, based on someone's taking a list of Mary's siblings (men listed first) and putting two years between each birth.
