Once again, "Eliza Gordy" is a poorly conceived amalgam of various mention of Timothy Ford's wife, referred to a few times as "Goody Ford" or "Goodwife Ford." The surname "Gordy" is probably, thus, a misguided variation of "Goody." Traditional but false theories that she was Elizabeth Knowles probably left genealogists with the idea that her Christian name was either "Elizabeth" or "Eliza." Truth be told, there is probably no remaining evidence that might indicate what her name is, despite a wide acceptance among today's genealogists that her name was indeed "Eliza Gordy." Although this is probably false, history has stuck her with this nickname.
