Daniel was referred to as Sergeant Daniel Lester. At his
death, he was brought into town from Great Neck, where he had lived, and was buried
with military honors. In his diary, Joshua Hempstead made the following
notation (p.63):
Friday Jany 11. 1716/17 ... Serg. Daniel Lester an old man died last night,
about midnight. Saturday 12th... in ye afternoon at ye funeral of Sergt Lester
who was buried in arms.
His will was dated Feb 25, 1711/12, with a codicil added March 4, 1712/13; it
was proved Jan 16, 1716/17 (Parkhurst manuscript). The will mentions, among
others, his wife Hannah and "Grandchild Hannah Lester, dau. of my son
