Traditionally, there is very little information about John Richardson, except that he married his wife when she was supposedly pregnant by another man and stood by her when she was accused of fornication. To avoid further scandal, he removed her to Roxbury, Massachusetts, where she had the baby, which died shortly after birth. Gossip that the illegitimate baby may have been murdered by its mother, or possibly step-father, or both, never amounted to much.
