Henrietta was betrothed to Enoch before he went off to fight in the Civil War. Her sister Sarah Mallory returned to Maine from Wisconsin during the Civil War with her son Clarence, while Sarah's husband also fought. Clarence died in Maine at age 2 and is buried there. Before the end of the war, Henrietta was eventually blinded after an accident when her friend was joking with her and snapped an elbow-length glove into her face. She was blind for the rest of her life. After her marriage with Enoch, they traveled to Wisconsin to live near Sarah Mallory and her husband, who had also returned from the war. The Mallorys had a pair of twins, Frank and Fred who were near the age of Lory Newell, who was born in Janesville, Wisconsin. Henrietta also stayed in close contact with a sister, Georgianna, who married Enoch's brother Lora and lived in Los Angeles. After the death of Enoch, Henrietta lived with the family of her daughter, Georgia Kinney.
