It was close to midnight when Eric and I arrived home. We had spent almost all of the day and half of the night at the studio, which was in mid-town, near Broadway. Max made me totally comfortable and I made myself relax.
At first we just played around with some scales and I sang some harmonies with Eric. I guess Max was impressed, because then he had me signing a few of his original songs. I was having so much fun that I forgot to be shy and just let things flow.
At around 9 o clock the three of us went to dinner. Max and Eric talked a lot about the album and what material Eric liked, or didn't like. Then, just before Eric and I left, Max told me that I had a job on the album if I wanted it. Eric practically knocked me over, giving me a gigantic hug and I graciously accepted the offer. They would start recording my vocals in mid-June so nothing would interfere with school. The entire car-ride home was filled with joyous screeched from Eric and I.
Back at the loft, I slipped into my pajamas and curled up on the sofa to watch some TV before I went to bed. All of a sudden, I heard music coming from the stereo.
Eric appeared and gave me a grin. "What is this?" Before he could answer, my voice filled the speakers, and Max's lyrics poured out.
"Max made a tape of what we did today. He told me to give it to you." Eric sat down next to me.
"Oh my God... that was really weird... Wow. That's me?" I stared at the wall, wide-eyed and listening.
"Yep. You sound great, woman." Eric said.
"Shut up." I said, blushing.
I got up quickly and jogged over to the stereo, stopping the tape.
"This is too strange to listen to myself. Sorry." I said.
"Lord, Shelly. Are you gonna still think you suck when you're a star?" he said, sarcastically.
"Fuck you, Eric... it's just weird, ok?" I walked over to him and grinned, "Besides, I'm gonna be on your album... aren't I already a star?" Eric laughed as I struck a pose.
"Oh... this is gonna be so awesome, Shelly." I sat down.
"It sure as hell is!"
