Chapter Six

"OK, just make sure you're close enough to the mic. keep the head phones on, and just belt your heart out," Lance instructed. Alyssa nodded adjusting the head set atop of her head. Justin, and Lance had wanted her to go into the studio to record a demo. Just so Lance could hear her voice, and to determine whether or not she was "star" material.

"I think I got it," She smiled as Lance made his way through the door.

He joined Justin behind the glass wall. Signalling to Alyssa that the music was about to start. She opened her mouth, and the words just came out naturally. In a sweet, angelic tone, so heart felt, and heaven sent. Alyssa had one hand holding the head set in place, the other moving with the soft melody playing around her. Her green eyes were closed, her eye brows knitted into focus. With each note her mouth formed reaching and perfecting every sound. The last chords played and Alyssa removed the head phones, meeting Lance and Justin, behind the sucluded glass wall.

"So what did you think?" Her voice was small, damp with nervousness.

"Amazing. Absolutley, amazing," Was all Lance managed to get out, before leading her over to his desk. "You have definitely got what it takes. Your voice is. just wow, and appearance is that of a a little pop star princess," Lance's voice was muffled with building excitment, as he tried ot explain all the thoughts rushing to his brain.

"Thanks, I think," Alyssa sighed.

"It's up to you. But, I definitely see so much potential. If you are interested, I am very willing to sign you," He told her. Nodding her head, Alyssa thought everything over in her head.

"Can I get back to you on that?" She asked, her gaze lurking to her hands.

"Of course. So talk to ya later hun. I am gonna get going. Just call me, or tell Justin whatever. We will worry about paperwork later," Lance answered, handing a half slip of paper to her, with his number scrolled onto it.

"Thanks," Alyssa flashed a smile, following Justin and Lance out the door.

"I'll catch you later Alyssa call me," Lance's words disappeared with his retreating figure, as Alyssa walked along with Justin.

"Can we talk a sec?" Justin's voice was uneasy as he took her hand, leading her to a bench aside the bakery. The scent of fresh bread lingered in the air. Circling their body along side the noise and warmth delluting the air.

"Sure. Shoot," she told him turning her body to face him. Her gaze intense, and focused on him, as he talked.

"I honestly think that you should sign. Come on Alyssa. You know you've got what it takes to make it..." Justin urged.

"And what exactly is that Justin?" She asked, in a low voice. Thick with frustration, and worry. She let her head drop to her hands as she rubbed her temples.

"Talent, looks, personality. Everything," He told her.

"Justin, do you know how many people may have what it takes? And do you know how many never make it past being a garage band, with a dream?" She asked him, lifting her head, locking her eyes on his.

"Yes, but you aren't like other people. You are different Alyssa. You could make it, I know you could."

"And Justin, what happens if I dont? What if I quit my job to work on an album? What if I go out there and dont get so much as a tv appearance? What happens then Justin?" He fidgeted, but never broke eye contact.

"Then you dont make it. Its as easy as that Alyssa. Either you make it, and you try. Or you dont, and you give up," He answered, his eyes daring, and cocky, yet yearing, and comforting all at the same time.

"Justin, I am not like you. If I am not successful, I dont have anyone to back me up. You just don't understand, you dont know anything about me. If I fall, I have no one to catch me, nothing to help me stand back up." She said, her voice testy, yet patched with emotions.

"Why not me?" The simple phrase was puzzling in its own sense, yet comforting as his face softened.

"You what?"

"Why not me? Why cant I back you up? Alyssa, why cant I be your support?" He said, intensifying his gaze. Then loosing it. Walking away, not giving her time to respond. Alyssa watched as he moved away, the back of his head the only thing visible, through the now crowd of people. Her mind was screaming for her to let him leave. Yet her heart had a different beat in mind. Without another thought, she stood up, and did the only thing she could.

"Justin! Wait!"
