"And I will always love you-OO-OO" Alyssa sang along with the radio.
Trying to level her voice above the hum of the vacuum cleaner. She hurried around trying to tidy up her small apartment. It consisted of a bedroom, bathroom, small living room, and a kitchen barely large enough to fit five people in. Not exactly in the nicest part of town, but it was enough for her. Tucking a loose stand of her dark hair behind her ear, she switched off the vacuum. Whitney Houston's voice echoed in her mind, though it was not turned up loudly. Sighing she turned off the radio and headed for her room. Making her way to the closet, just aside her twin size bed she shifted through it. Grabbing a pale yellow sun dress. reaching to just above her knee. She slipped it on, and pulled her hair into a barrette.
"So much to do," She mumbled to herself as she walked out the door, locking it behind her.
"Ahh! You gotta love vacation!" Justin said driving his elbows deep into the grass. Propping his body up. "What do you say a little game of hoops? one on one JC? Just me and you?" He asked, his voice getting cockier, and more defiant.
"Oh, are you challenging me Curly?" JC asked standing up, brushing the grass of his shorts.
"Yes, I guess it would be a challenge for you, now wouldn't it?" Justin's eyebrows twitched as he laughed softly.
"Oh, you're on! Me and you, everything is worth 1 point. First to 15, gotta win by 2," JC decided, meeting Justin in the driveway in front of the hoop.
"Deal," Justin agreed. As soon as JC checked the ball to him Justin managed to score. Over and over again until the game was 15 to 8. JC becoming the closest to beating him, yet quite a distance in the numbers.
"Oh next time Justin. Just wait till next time," JC warned, trying to regain his heavy breathing.
"If you want you can just call me master," Justin laughed and walked inside. Only to see his mom frantically running around, all dressed up. "Whats up mom?" He asked, his eyes dancing with confusion.
"Oh I totally forgot until just now! Gosh, I need to be at the Church in 10 minutes. Since we are remodeling the church, we have meetings almost every night now. I have to be there and soon," She explained clasping an earring into her ear.
"Really? Cool. Can I go?" Justin asked.
"If you want to. Be my guest. It's not the most entertaining thing but, sure. You can even go over to the Sunday School Rooms. They are watching the kids in there," She told him.
"Sounds great. I am so there," He smiled, running up the stairs to get his jacket.
The weather was still hot.. Being at the beginning of September the weather wouldnt being getting colder till atleast a month. But, the nights did see to chill down now and again. He met his Mom in the car, and quickly they drove to the familiar church. The doors had already been closed, and they assumed that they were late.
"Lets hurry up Justin," Lynn directed as they walked in through the doors, to see a large group of people gathered in the front room. "Sorry we're late," Lynn apologized, blushing a little as she looked at each set of eyes set on her and Justin.
"Not a problem. Nice of you to come. Lynn, and especially you Justin," their preacher thanked.
"Not a problem Sir. Now I was wondering if you didnt mind if I could help at the day care center," He asked.
"That would be great! Do you know where your headed?"
"UH-huh thanks," Justin said walking off. Humming lightly he turned onto the Sunday School hallway, being populated by toddlers. He smiled as he walked in, and immediately heard the voices of little kids fill the air. As he turned the corner his eyes focused upon someone he was wanting to see, or actually know more about. Alyssa sat in a small blue plastic chair, which matched all of the ones the kids were to sit in. "Alyssa, its nice to see you again," He cleared his throat, causing her to jump and turn around.
"Oh Justin. Hi, how are you?" She asked.
"Fine, and yourself?"
"Same as I ever was," She stifled a small laugh resting her head in her hand.
"And how would that be?"
"Oh, just peachy," She answered her voice dripping in sarcasm.
"Oh, the kitten does have claws! Well, Miss Smarty pants. Retract them. cause I have a funny feeling we are going to be seeing alot of each other."
"Think again hot shot. I know we wont. Like your mother would want you to be around me," She rolled her eyes. Justin was baffled by her remark. He didn't understand it. A questioning silence sliced the air around them, before Justin started to ask...
