Chapter Thirteen

Siobhan stepped out into the sunlight and sighed. She got way too uptight around JC and that was starting to annoy her. She was supposed to be the strong one, not letting anything out, finding out all the dirt on HIM, but whenever she got around him he seemed to be able to turn it all around on her. In a way she hated that fact, but something else inside of her liked it, it showed someone cared.

Siobhan looked both ways and realized she still had awhile before the limo came to pick her up. She found a bench outside of the hotel entrance and sat down, travel bags still in hand. The doorman peeked over at her and smiled, tipping his hat politely. Siobhan smiled weakly and leaned back on the hard wood bench.

“Why do I let people get to me so easily? More importantly why is it JC can get to me so easily?” Siobhan murmured to herself, expecting no apparent answer.

“Excuse me, miss?” a voice said, startling Siobhan.

Siobhan looked up confused and slightly off guard. She realized she was talking out loud to herself and unfortunately, someone had overheard her. “Yes?” she asked, clearly embarrassed from being caught muttering to herself.

“Is there something I could help you with?” the elderly man asked.

Siobhan shook her head and smiled lightly, “I’m just waiting for my ride.”

“I see, may I sit down and join you?” he asked politely.

Siobhan scooted over and moved all her travel bags to her lap, making room for the doorman to sit beside her. The friendly faced man sat beside her and adjusted his uncomfortable looking uniform once before settling down and looking back over at her.

“Why such the long face?” he asked gently. “If you don’t mind me asking.”

Siobhan shrugged, “Just tired I guess.”

“Excuse me for saying so, but I think it’s more than that. Fight with your boyfriend?” he asked kindly.

Siobhan crinkled her nose slightly and thought of JC. She laughed softly to herself and shook her head, “Definitely someone I would NOT call a boyfriend, instead...how can I put this nicely? An acquaintance maybe?”

The doorman tilted his head, telling her he didn’t believe her with his eyes. He smiled with a knowing smile and nodded his head. “Still...an argument?”

Siobhan had to think about that question for a moment before responding. “Not really an argument, I just have a lot on my mind and didn’t give him much of the benefit.”

The man nodded slowly, deciding on whether he wanted to believe her or not. “Do you like him?”

“In what way? General liking?” she asked curiously.

The man shrugged slightly and nodded, “Maybe something more?”

Siobhan began laughing at the mere thought of liking JC romantically. She began laughing so hard her smile came back to her face and she forgot the mention of her family, her attitude towards the issue, and eventually she just smiled with genuine amusement, eyes and voice filling with laughter.

“No...no I don’t think so...” she managed to get out between laughs. “JC...? JC and I...no definitely not.”

The man smiled politely and let out a small chuckle. “I’m glad to see I got a smile out of that pretty face of yours. Such a pretty face shouldn’t go to waste with those looks of sadness that you came out here with...such a shame to throw such a face out.”

Siobhan’s laughter died down and she finally grew quiet. She looked intently at the elderly man sitting beside her and he gave a cautious look, wondering why she stopped laughing so suddenly. He looked around himself, then back at her.

“I’m sorry did I offend you?” he asked in a slightly worried tone. “I didn’t mean to.”

Siobhan shook her head, “No not at all. In fact you flattered me.”

The man’s expression relaxed and his warm smile returned to his face, “Well I speak the truth fair lady, and only the truth, otherwise I say nothing at all.”

Siobhan nodded and let his words sink into her head. He said she was pretty, that a face like hers shouldn’t go to waste. As awkward as it sounded, it wasn’t the fact that HE gave her the compliment, it was the whole compliment itself. Never had she once been complimented by a complete stranger on her appearance.

That lead to Siobhan suddenly realizing something, she never really cared about anything else in her life except her career. This scared her and at the same time saddened her. Her looks were just plain natural beauty, she never put much effort into them, if she could have it her way she’d wear jeans and loose T-shirt to work with her hair pulled into a comfortable ponytail. She would chew gum as loudly as she wanted to and crack bubbles just to annoy people. She would stay home on days she didn’t feel like going to work and not have to worry about anything else but herself for once. She would also have a family.

Siobhan shook her head and rattled her thoughts out of her mind. Her thoughts were getting to the best of her lately and she seemed to be noticing a lot more things around her. That frightened her because they always seemed to come out at the wrong moments, when people were around.

“Th-thank you,” she finally stuttered, after a long driven out silence.

The old man nodded his head and smiled warmly once again. “I’m glad to have helped, if I did at all...”

Siobhan nodded her head, “You did.”

The man stood up and adjusted his uniform once again before holding out his hand. Siobhan placed her hand into his palm and watched him as he kissed her hand politely.

“Now you take of yourself pretty lady,” he said kindly.

Siobhan remained silent and brought her hand back to her side as he let go gently. Her limo suddenly pulled up to the front and Siobhan stood up quickly, gathering her travel bags and belongings.

“Let me,” the man said, taking her bags from her hands.

The doorman walked over to the limo as the limo driver got out of the car. They both loaded her bags into the limo and waited for Siobhan to climb into the car.

“I hope to see you soon,” the doorman said in a soft tone.

Siobhan smiled, “You will.”

The limo driver shut the door and walked back to the driver’s side. He climbed in and pulled away, while Siobhan sat in the back seat by herself and began to analyze her life all over again.

Siobhan walked into her own apartment again and inhaled the scents of home. She was ecstatic to be back, but too tired to jump around in excitement. Siobhan dropped her bags by the door and walked over to her sofa. She threw herself down and sighed heavily.

The limo ride back to her apartment, from the hotel, had been crucial. Siobhan had gazed out the window and wondered where her life was really going. She was home, she was back in her own territory, yet she felt like she was alienated from everything she thought she knew. This depressed her.

Siobhan looked up towards her window and saw the sun shining brightly into her apartment. The sunlight lay on her carpeted floor and warmed the spot it lit up. Siobhan slid off the couch and into the sun spot, curling up into a little ball and sighing sadly.

She couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong with her, but suddenly everything around her seemed meaningless, except for everything she didn’t have. The sun shone down upon her small body and warmed her in a comforting sense.

Siobhan closed her eyes and wondered why she felt so bad about everything, nothing had triggered this much emotion inside of her and she was curious to know what suddenly lit everything up.

“I’m just tired and thinking too much,” she told herself in a slow tone.

Siobhan stood up and walked into her own room. Everything had been how she had left it before she moved to Orlando and though Siobhan would usually be happy to be in her own bedroom again, she felt like she was in a strangers personal space. She stared around her room for a moment before walking back into her living room. She had such an unsettled feeling about her and she couldn’t pinpoint WHY she had it about her.

Siobhan dragged her feet, walking back to her living room. She looked at the sofa, debating on whether she wanted to sit back down on it, or go for the floor again. She ended up slowly crawling to the floor and into her sun spot again. Siobhan drearily closed her eyes and began to drift off to sleep.

“SIOBHAN!” a voice boomed, startling the young girl.

The small child sat up and rubbed her eyes quickly, waking herself up completely. She looked around to see where the deep, demanding voice was coming from and finally settled on the hallway. The girl picked herself up and ran in the direction of the voice.

“Where have you been? I’ve been calling you for five minutes now!” the man said in a stern tone.

“I’m sorry daddy, I fell asleep,” the girl replied in a small voice.

The elder man seemed to tower over her, causing the girl to almost tremble in fear. The man’s eyes traveled down to his daughters frail figure, wandering over her messy hair and her now wrinkled clothes.

“Go get changed and hurry we’re going to be late!” he barked.

The girl flinched from the force he used in his voice and nodded her head obediently. She spun around on her heels and bolted up the steps, struggling to not trip and tumble. She finally made it up the steps and to her room safely. The little girl let out a breath of relief and she walked over to her bed where her clothes were laid out and waiting for her.

The young girl changed quickly and walked over to her dresser, grabbing her brush and running it through her tangled hair. She took one last look and made sure there were no ruffles in her dress, smoothing the material out with her hands. She them ran her hands through her hair and smoothed the stray pieces of hair down.

A soft knock on her door caused her to look up from staring at her own reflection. “Come in,” she said softly.

The door opened slowly and her mom stepped in gracefully. She smiled warmly and walked over her daughter standing in front of the dresser. Her mother began to stroke the top of her head gently and stared at the young girl’s reflection.

“Your beautiful,” she whispered quietly and affectionately.

The girl remained still and closed her eyes, capturing the quiet moment she was sharing with her mother. Everything in her life seemed to take a deep breath and for once, slow down. Her heart stopped thudding in her chest and seemed to work it’s way down to a soft pitter patter of beats. The rhythmic feeling of her mother’s hand running from the top of her head, down her hair, almost relaxed her so much it could put her to sleep instantly.

“Your father loves you very much,” her mother said softly, breaking the ever so peaceful silence.

The girl’s heartbeat seemed to quicken with the mention of her authority figure. Her eyes flew open and stared back at her mother in the reflection of the mirror. The small set of eyes seemed to grow sad and weary from the realization of reality that suddenly hit her.

The girl nodded, “I know,” she replied solemnly.

Her mother smiled weakly, seeing the obvious hurt and fear the girl lived in. Not fear of her father ever hurting her, or harming her in any way physical, more like a fear of not being good enough for him. The older woman smiled comfortingly and paused her hand, toying with the ends of the girl’s hair.

“No matter how hard he seems on you, he loves you VERY much and cares a great deal about you. Even though he can seem a little strict, it’s all for your benefit in the end, he just wants you to be the best that you can be,” the woman explained, though she didn’t need to.

The young girl nodded her head, understanding. She didn’t know how many times she had heard that speech from her mother, it was clear that her mother felt partly responsible for the harshness her father treated her with sometimes, so she felt the need to heal that wound. The only thing her mother didn’t know, was that once the wound was made, no matter how quickly it healed, there was always a scar.

(The Next Day)

Mike pounded on the door impatiently, “Why the hell isn’t she answering her door? I know she’s in there,” he muttered to himself in a frustrated tone.

“I’m coming,” a weary voice responded through the door.

Mike smiled satisfied, to himself. “About time,” he murmured softly.

A few seconds later, the door swung open and a disheveled looking Siobhan stood in the doorway with a glare that could melt ice. Mike almost shuddered from the look, but he was so used to Siobhan’s evil looks, he brushed it off like he had grown accustomed to doing.

“Good morning Si and how was your fun filled night?” Mike asked brightly, pushing his way past her and sauntering into the apartment.

“Why COME ON IN MIKE,” Siobhan said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “I had a fine night, nothing new and special, the same thing I’ve seen for God knows HOW MANY nights before this, but the only thing that divides the other times as being better than this one is...”

Mike turned around to face Siobhan, while he had planted himself smack dab in the middle of her apartment. “Is what Si?”

“Is that I didn’t wake up to YOU of course,” Siobhan said with a small smirk.

Mike sighed and nodded his head, “I was waiting for that one, but no time for games today, I have a lot to do and I’m on a tight schedule.”

“Good for you,” Siobhan said, pushing her door shut with one hand and shoving a loose pieces of hair out of her face. “Now what do you want and you better have brought coffee or breakfast for waking me up this early, or I’m not talking anymore except to say get the hell out of my house.”

“I must say, I DID miss your great moods while you’ve been gone...” Mike replied, eyes traveling up Siobhan’s figure. “Not to mention your MORNING friendliness.”

Siobhan rolled her eyes in annoyance, “Don’t piss me off today Mike, I’m going on about five hours of sleep and being woken up when I have the opportunity to sleep in is NOT a good combination for me.”

“Well then why don’t we go out to breakfast? My treat of course,” Mike offered.

“How about later? When the sun is actually up?”

“The sun is up Si, it’s almost eight am.”

“EXACTLY my point, now what do you want?” Siobhan said, reaching for the door handle again.

Mike ran over to her and stopped her hand from opening the door, “I’ll get to my point, just don’t try and kick me out just yet.”

Siobhan looked down at Mike’s hand which was covering hers and shot a dirty look towards him. She slid her hand out from under his and made a face as if she was infected with some sort of deadly virus from his touch. She crossed her arms and shifted her weight onto one side, jutting her hip out and fixed her stare on him.

“Talk and talk quickly,” she said bluntly.

“I came by to see what you’ve gathered up so far about the guys,” Mike blurted out quickly.

“Didn’t I tell you I’D call YOU when I was ready to show you what I’ve put together?” Siobhan asked, raising an eyebrow challengingly.

Mike nodded his head slowly, “But I wasn’t sure if you’d really call so I took it upon myself to get in touch with you.”

“Well I WAS planning on calling, but this visit just ANNOYED me, so who knows what I’ll do now, but I’m not going to decide until I get some more REAL sleep,” Siobhan said, uncrossing her arms and reaching for the door again.

“Si come on,” Mike pleaded in a low tone. “Don’t be stubborn, let me just see what you have, you can go back to bed while I read through it, I’ll be quiet.”

Siobhan thought about it for a moment before responding, “No, now get out.”

Mike’s eyebrows turned angry and he growled in a low tone. “Siobhan don’t be like this, if you don’t show me your work in the next two days I WILL have you brought out of this assignment.”

“Oh will you Mike? Please DO! Then I won’t have to go on tour with the world’s most wanted boy toy’s and I can lead my NORMAL and civilized life back here in LA instead of Orlando, home of the old folk and teeny bopper bubble gum boy bands of the US,” Siobhan exclaimed with fake enthusiasm. She smiled sweetly with obvious sarcasm and annoyance written all over her face. “Besides Mike, what are you going to tell the paper? That you sent me on an undercover story to snoop through the lives of *N SYNC and that you’ve been risking both of our careers to keep me unknown to everyone? I’m sure that’ll go well with the boss.” Siobhan smirked, “Added to the fact that your ass could get sued for your attempts to get the whole story, think about it Mike, the *N SYNC guys are pretty big right now, they could squeeze the LA Times dry with a snap of a finger, and wake up the next day with a clear conscience, while your sorry ass will be paying law fees until you drop off the face of this earth.”

Siobhan was thoroughly finding amusement out of this conversation with Mike. She felt in control and she had him in more spots than one. Her life was falling to pieces and she didn’t know why, but she figured if she was going down, so was he, added to the fact that he was the main reason her life was how it was. In some aspects that was a good thing and others a bad thing. But right now, all Siobhan could think of were the bad aspects.

Mike remained silent, slightly thrown off guard from Siobhan’s sudden words of strength and reason. His breath was let out slowly and shrugged to no one in particular, as if making an agreement with himself. Siobhan studied him curiously and tilted her head in wonder.

“Have you been taking your morning pills?” she asked with a small laugh to herself.

Mike smiled sarcastically, holding back his anger and annoyance. “Round two Si, round two...I’ll be in touch,” he said softly, opening the door for himself.

Mike walked out of her apartment without another word while Siobhan looked after him cautiously. That was just TOO easy on her part, Mike seemed to be giving in a lot easier lately and she wondered why. Siobhan shrugged to herself, too tired to think anymore. She shut the door and wandered back to her bedroom, where she climbed back into her now chilled bed and fell back asleep.

Around noon later that day, the door began pounding again. Siobhan grumbled to herself, cursing under her breath from annoyance of being disturbed twice already in one morning. She stumbled, still half asleep, to the front door again.

She grabbed the handle and swung open the door, “I swear to God Mike if you don’t leave me the--” She stopped in mid sentence to find JC standing in her doorway. “Ummm...hi?”

JC smiled warmly and waved, looking Siobhan up and down, noticing her appearance with a small grin.

Siobhan looked down at herself and back up at him. She let out a nervous and sheepish chuckle and finally realized she was making him stand in the doorway.

“I’m sorry, come on in,” she said, moving out of the way so he could enter.

“Thanks,” he said with a small nod, stepping into her apartment slowly, looking around. “Did I wake you?” he asked, scoping out the living room.

“Your not the first one,” she said simply.

“Are you parents still in bed or--” he began.

Siobhan sighed heavily and shook her head, “They went out earlier today, they didn’t wake me because I requested to be left alone so I could sleep in.”

JC nodded his head and looked back over at Siobhan who was now trying to run a hand through her knotted hair without much success. He smiled at her, trying to break the semi awkward silence between them.

“Why are you here again?” Siobhan asked, not trying to be rude.

JC remained silent for a moment, debating on if she was trying to be obnoxious or it was really just a question directed towards him. Without much success of deciding he finally spoke, “I had a little time to kill and wanted to know if you’d like to go out and grab a bite to eat.”

Siobhan looked at him closely and wondered if he was really saying what she thought he was. “Why is it I always get stuck going out to eat with you, then it’s mistaken later for a date?” she asked.

JC smiled, “Because that’s how the guys like to interpret our friendship, into a romantic relationship.”

Siobhan nodded and laughed lightly. “If you don’t mind waiting for me to shower and change I’ll go.”

JC nodded his head in agreement and gazed around the apartment.

“Oh, sit down and feel free to turn on the TV or something, I’ll be about twenty minutes,” Siobhan said, pointing to the couch and TV.

Siobhan left JC standing in the middle of the apartment, debating on what he wanted to do to amuse himself until Siobhan was ready. JC walked over to the sofa and sat himself down on the couch. He looked around for the remote and noticed something. The apartment seemed small for a couple to be living in, more just like a one person place. He decided to ignore that fact, thinking maybe Siobhan’s parents couldn’t afford a nicer apartment, or maybe didn’t even need one for just the two of them.

JC finally found the remote and flipped on the TV after much trouble trying to figure out HOW to turn on the TV. He leaned back in the couch and shifted once, before settling comfortably in the cushions. JC’s attention seemed to be wandering around Siobhan’s apartment, instead of focused on the TV and who was on it.

JC’s eyes traveled around the living room once more, then he noticed another thing. There were no family pictures. JC looked back at the TV, feeling nosy for his curiosity, he was surprised she even let him in his apartment after she had blown up on him at the hotel restaurant the day before.

His eyes began drifting back to his surroundings and he studied her decorations peacefully, something just wasn’t right. Maybe it was the prescience that was wrong, the slight emptiness the apartment had. Or the lack of family pictures Siobhan’s parents had in the apartment, he was sure they were proud of their daughter, so why not show it? JC shook his head and chuckled softly to himself.

“Your thinking too much about this,” he said gently.

He looked back at the TV and tried focusing his attention back on the screen by turning up the volume in hopes that something someone said would catch his attention. Yet his eyes still traveled around the apartment, something just wasn’t right.

The next thing he knew Siobhan walked back into the living room, directly walking into the kitchen to retrieve her purse. JC sat up immediately and smiled, turning the TV down and watching Siobhan as she moved around her kitchen, getting her things together.

“That was quick,” he said, filling up the silence held between them.

Siobhan looked up and gave a look as if she just remembered he was in her apartment. “Hm? Oh yeah, well I’m not one to take a lot of time to get ready.”

“Keep that trait I’m sure your future husband will love you for that,” JC said with a smile.

Siobhan looked over at him and studied him. JC shrank back slightly in his seat and looked away to avoid the awkwardness he had just replaced the silence with.

“Huh. Yeah,” Siobhan finally replied.

She looked back down at what she was doing and continued rummaging through her purse. JC stood up and cleared his throat nervously, getting the wrinkles out of his pants from sitting down. Siobhan finally zipped up her purse and walked over to where JC was standing.

“Ready?” she asked.

JC nodded and let her pass first. Siobhan walked in front and over to the door, opening it and holding it open for JC. JC waited for her to move but she insisted to let him go first.

“I have to lock up,” she stated.

JC nodded and walked into the hallway, almost afraid she would shut the door behind him and leave him in the hallway by himself. Siobhan followed him out and shut her apartment door, locking it securely before turning back around to face JC.

“So how’d you find out where I was staying?” she asked, walking down the hallway with him by her side.

“Huh?”

“Well I wake up and here you are at my apart-- err my parent’s apartment, how’d you know where I was staying?” she asked, stuttering mid sentence to catch herself.

“OH! Well I didn’t get to talk to you much yesterday and I felt a little guilty for prying into your personal business back at the hotel restaurant, so I decided to come visit you and apologize,” JC explained.

Siobhan nodded. “But how’d you know where I was staying?” she repeated.

“The limo driver,” JC said with a small shrug.

“If I didn’t know you relatively well, I would think your stalking me,” Siobhan said, half serious, half joking.

JC laughed softly and shook his head. “I’m not psycho, I promise.”

Siobhan smiled, “That’s always good to know, so where are we going to eat?”

“Do you recommend anywhere?” JC asked, raising an eyebrow in question.

Siobhan nodded, “I know a little Italian place that would be nice, not too many people so you’ll be safe, I think.”

JC shrugged, “We can give it a try.”

Siobhan nodded and continued to walk down the long hallway to the elevator. JC walked beside her, both of the of them falling into silence again.

“I can’t believe you said that to the waitress!” JC laughed loudly, walking towards Siobhan’s apartment by her side.

“Why not? She deserved it!” Siobhan said with a sly smile.

JC began laughing again and shook his head while Siobhan giggled lightly. They both reached Siobhan’s apartment door and their laughter died down. They both caught their breaths and Siobhan reached to unlock her door. She pushed her way into her apartment and threw her keys on a nearby table.

“Come on in,” she said, walking into her kitchen and placing her purse on the kitchen table.

JC walked in after her and shut the door behind him. He looked around and without even realizing it said, “You parents still aren’t home yet?”

Siobhan froze and stiffened. She took a deep breath and shook her head, trying to brush off his question and ignore the uncomfortable air hanging around her. “They must still be out.”

JC realized his mistake and bit his lip, scolding himself for saying anything, yet again. Siobhan searched through her cabinets for a glass, after retrieving one, going to the fridge to find a beverage.

“Want anything?” she offered.

“No thanks I’m fine,” JC declined, holding up his hand and walking into her living room.

Siobhan shrugged and poured herself a glass of water, carrying it back into the living room with her. JC was already seated on the couch, while Siobhan picked up the remote and flipped on the TV. She flung the remote on her coffee table and turned back to face JC. She tucked her legs on the sofa’s edge and gripped her cup with both hands.

She felt surprisingly comfortable around JC and this threw her off guard, but for once she didn’t care. Siobhan just decided to go with the flow and see where it took her. Turns out it took her to having a good time, without worrying about anything she had to hide and getting a few good laughs alongside with JC. She could really get used to the whole friendship thing they were beginning to build.

JC looked over at Siobhan’s smiling face and for once, he could almost swear her face glowed with true amusement and happiness. JC smiled, knowing he was partly the reason for that smile that beamed off of her face and he liked that factor.

They continued their conversation until the phone rang. Siobhan stood up to answer the phone, forgetting the possibility that it could be Mike.

She picked up the phone and answered, “Hello?”

“May I please speak to Siobhan?” a small voice asked.

“Speaking, who is this?”

“Siobhan?” the person on the other line asked. “You sound so different...so...so...grown up.”

Siobhan looked down at the phone with wonder. “Excuse me but who is this?”

“You mean you don’t even recognize my voice?” the other person asked with a hint of sadness in it. “Well I guess you wouldn’t...” she trailed off.

Siobhan sat for a moment, then realized who it was. Her heart began to beat faster and coldness washed over her body and through her system. “M-mom?” she choked out.

“You do remember me!” the woman said with delight.

Siobhan glanced over at JC who was looking at her curiously. She turned around quickly so her back was facing JC. “How’d you get my number?” she asked in a low tone.

“It was some trouble, but a very nice man at your work gave it to me,” her mother replied.

“Mike,” Siobhan murmured softly to herself.

“Yes I believe that was his name,” her mother responded to her soft comment. “How have you been darling?”

Darling. Something only her mother called her. “Fine,” she said slowly. “What about you?” she asked.

Her mom sighed heavily, something was wrong. She paused for another moment before talking again. “Tired darling, very tired.”

“Why is that mom?” Siobhan asked. Mom. A word she hadn’t used in God knows how many years. It was a bit strange to use it again, but it felt somewhat comforting.

“It’s your father darling...” her mom began.

Siobhan stiffened at the mention of him. “What about him?” she asked carefully.

“He’s...he’s sick,” her mom said wearily.

“How sick?”

“Very sick darling, he’s going to die soon,” her mom said with deep sadness.

Siobhan’s whole world seemed to stop. Die? Her father? No, not possible. The man who went through anything and everything. The strongest man she had ever encountered, was going to die? Siobhan shook her head.

“He’s what?” Siobhan choked out.

“He’s going to die soon honey. That’s why I called, he’s in the hospital and I think it’s time you two worked out your differences so you both get to settle things between you two before it’s too late,” her mom said softly.

“I-I...” Siobhan stammered. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Say you’ll come visit...” her mom suggested slowly. “Today.”

“Today?” Siobhan squeaked into the phone.

“Yes darling, please,” her mother pleaded gently. “It would mean a lot to me and your father.”

Siobhan let out a small grunt in reply. “Yeah I bet.”

“It would,” her mom assured her. “Please.”

Siobhan sighed, “Fine I’ll be there, what hospital are you at?”

“The LA one,” her mom said with a hint of hope in her voice. “See you soon darling, I love you.”

Siobhan remained silent, “Love you too.”

She hung up the phone and looked over at JC who was still sitting on the couch, watching her unnoticed. “I have to go,” she said quickly, grabbing her things.

“Where?” JC asked, noticing the concerned look on her face and standing up.

“On an errand, I’m sorry, but I’ll see you tonight maybe,” she said rushing towards the door. “Shut the door behind you please, it’ll lock automatically,” she said jiggling the handle to make it lock. “Thanks.”

Siobhan slammed the door behind her and left JC standing in her apartment in wonder and confusion on where she was going and why she was so secretive about it.
