Chapter Twelve

(The Next Day, Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Siobhan walked into her apartment and inhaled deeply. It was good to be back into her own personal space and she was relieved to be able to spend some time with herself without people interrupting her thoughts. She needed to sort everything out in her head and get herself back on track with her mission, also figure out how to complete it without making everything difficult along with it.

Siobhan threw her suitcase to the side and kicked her shoes off immediately. She walked over to her overstuffed sofa and plopped down in exhaustion. She was tired and she still didn’t feel well. Siobhan wasn’t sure how she managed to get onto their tour bus and wait numerous hours to finally reach their destination called home. Not really home to her, but close enough for now.

Siobhan breathed heavily and leaned her head back on the soft cushions, looking up to her blank ceiling and trying to sort out her thoughts. Things were moving in the wrong direction and she wasn’t sure how to handle everything, but she knew one thing was for sure, she had to get a grip and get back to work.

Though she didn’t feel like it, Siobhan stood up to retrieve her laptop. She sat herself back down on the couch and opened up her laptop, balancing it on her legs. She entered herself into her documents and began looking over what she had already written about the guys. She chewed her nails in thought and remained perfectly still for a good twenty minutes before she moved to get a piece of gum, tearing her eyes away from her words.

She slid the piece of gum in her mouth and began chewing noisily. It definitely felt good to be back in her own temporary apartment so she could do whatever she pleased in the privacy of her own place. She chomped on her gum and continued to scan her eyes over her document. When she was done reading the whole thing she closed the document and sighed loudly.

She could do better than this, she had MORE than this. All the years of hard work and pushing herself through school, was NOT going to go down the drain with a weak attempt to write a harmful article against the biggest guy group in the entertainment business. She could do BETTER than this, she knew it.

Siobhan needed to bring her head out of the clouds and stop letting her emotions control her life for right now, she had a job to do and she was going to fulfill it, no more games.

JC laid on top of his bed and tucked his hands behind his head comfortably. He couldn’t believe it, he was actually home for a few days, and even better, he was lying on his own bed, with a few minutes to spare.

Sleep would usually be on the agenda for him, but something was keeping him awake, his thoughts. His mind seemed to be drifting away, though he tried to keep it focused on the tour and what the future was holding for him, what he could do to make the music he produced better, how he could sharpen up his dance moves in his performance. These were the usual thoughts of JC, but not today, today was different. Today his thoughts kept wandering back to Siobhan.

JC couldn’t manage to scratch out the picture of Siobhan and her facial expression when he had been confessing his thoughts of friendship for her. He couldn’t push out the scared look on her face, with dried tears plastered to her cheeks, she had when he had woken her up that one day in her hotel room. Something didn’t settle with him, there was so much more to her than she let on and now that he had seen a glimpse of the other side, the pained side, his curiosity was beginning to overwhelm him.

So many times he tried scolding himself for being so nosy and pushing into Siobhan’s personal business, but then again he couldn’t let those moments he had seen with her defenses down, pass him by without a word or a small attempt to find out what caused her emotions to stir up so much.

JC sighed heavily and shifted in his bed, he felt so relieved to be home and resting in his own bed without worrying about the bus suddenly slamming on the brakes and sending him rolling around in his bed compartment. No more bumps and bruises from the semi smooth bus ride for at least two nights.

JC rubbed his eyes tiredly and thought of the night ahead of him, his concert and the show he was expected to put on for everyone. He felt the pressure of tour life, but also the relief and happiness of his success. JC closed his eyes and took multiple deep breaths until they fell into a rhythmic pattern to show that he had fallen asleep.

(Two weeks Later, San Diego, CA)

Siobhan gazed out the window and smiled to herself. She was going back to California for a few days and the mere thought of returning close to home made her feel relaxed. The past two weeks had been a blur and Siobhan could barely remember them clearly. But the image of home was crystal clear in her mind and caused her to almost wiggle in her seat with excitement.

“Siobhan? Are you going to go or what?” Diana asked, tilting her head to the side to study her.

“Huh?” Siobhan said, bringing herself out of her daze.

“I said, are you going or what?” Diana repeated.

Siobhan looked down at her hands where she held a series of cards. She nodded her head and picked up a card, looking it over to see if she could use it.

“What were you thinking about?” Diana asked casually.

Siobhan shrugged, “Nothing important really.”

Diana smiled, “A guy?”

Siobhan gave a surprised look, then shook her head, “No.”

“It’s all right Chev, you can tell me,” Diana said with a sly smile.

“Tell you what?” Siobhan asked.

“About the guy,” Diana said simply.

“But there isn’t a guy,” Siobhan said with a puzzled expression.

“Sure there isn’t,” Diana said with a small nod.

“You don’t believe me,” Siobhan stated.

Diana shrugged, “I believe whatever you tell me.”

“No you don’t, I see that look of doubt,” Siobhan said, slightly offended.

Diana giggled quietly, “No looks of doubt, as for you, maybe a guilty conscience?”

“Why would I have a guilty conscience? I don’t have anything to be guilty about,” Siobhan argued.

“Well then why are you arguing about it?” Diana smirked playfully.

“I-- oh shut up,” Siobhan sighed, exasperated.

Diana began laughing and watched Siobhan mutter something under her breath and shoot her a menacing look. Diana placed her cards face down on the table and began laughing even harder. Siobhan looked up at her and glared.

“I see nothing funny about this,” Siobhan said flatly.

Diana tried controlling her laughter but managed to only get it down to a muffled giggle. “You should...you should see the look...the look on your...your face.”

Siobhan growled and Diana burst into laughter again. Siobhan studied her cards, trying to ignore Diana’s laughter, arranging her cards again even though they were as she wanted them. She looked at the cards laid out on the table and quickly glanced at the ones in her hand. Diana’s laughter continued and Siobhan couldn’t seem to concentrate on what she was trying to do. She finally threw down a card on the pile and slammed her cards down, crossing her arms in a huff.

Diana laughed harder at Siobhan’s actions and expressions, finally wiping a tear away from her eye. She looked down at the card Siobhan threw down and stopped laughing. Siobhan looked up at her cautiously and raised an eyebrow. Diana sat for a moment before slowly reaching her hand for the face down pile of cards. Siobhan watched Diana move closely and waited for the catch.

Diana chewed on her lip and rested her hand on the pile of cards, debating her next move. Siobhan watched her in suspense and narrowed her eyebrows. Diana finally sighed loudly and scooped up the piled of cards, arranging them in her hand. Siobhan breathed a sigh of relief, then leaned back in her chair.

Diana looked over at Siobhan who had a sure and relieved look on her face. She smiled mischievously before placing down all the cards in her hand and calling out, “Rummy.”

Siobhan’s mouth twisted up in frustration and threw her cards down on the table. “That wasn’t fair! You tried brainwashing me!”

Diana began laughing again and leaned back in her seat. “Brainwashing you? That’s a new one!”

“This isn’t funny!” Siobhan protested. “Not funny at all!”

This caused Diana to break into a fit of laughter which included bending over in her seat and having her eyes tear up. Siobhan stood up and grumbled something under her breath, then heading back towards the back room to find something else to do.

Siobhan walked back to the back room and swung open the door roughly, only to hit something. She heard a loud thump of the two objects hitting each other, then the soft groan. Siobhan ducked her head down and closed her eyes, afraid to know who she hit.

She stepped into the room cautiously and shut the door slowly, to find JC standing with his hand over his forehead and a look of pain on his face. Siobhan sighed and shook her head, out of all people, this was who she had to run into, or hit with a door for that matter.

“Sorry,” she said softly.

JC looked up surprised to hear her voice. He opened his eyes with a flinch and smiled weakly. “It’s all right.”

“Are you sure? I didn’t even see you and--” Siobhan began, taking a step towards him.

JC still clutched his head and nodded slowly, “I have a slight ringing in my ears, but that’s normal right? Tell me that’s normal and make me feel better...”

Siobhan smiled at his comment, but quickly covered it up before JC could see. She instinctively reached her hand up and touched his forehead gently. JC stiffened up at the touch, afraid of the pain it might cause. Siobhan drew her hand back slightly, then tried again.

“Your going to need some ice, that might leave a bruise,” Siobhan said, trying to get a good look at the bump rising on his forehead.

JC groaned and Siobhan continued to try and look at the mark that was forming on his forehead.

“Move your hand...” she instructed gently. “I can’t see it...”

JC looked up at her, “It hurts.”

Siobhan sighed, “Well of course it does, I smacked you pretty hard with that door.”

JC smiled sarcastically and grunted in response.

Siobhan grabbed JC’s elbow gently and led him back to the couch. She eased him onto the sofa and tried looking at the mark again. JC’s hand still covered it and he refused to move it.

“I’ll go get some ice,” Siobhan said, turning around for the door.

She made her way back out to the front of the bus and began rummaging through the cabinets. She finally found a towel and walked over to the small fridge to get some ice.

Diana was now reading a magazine with her headphones on. She peeked over the top of her magazine and watched Siobhan move around the bus quietly.

Once Siobhan got her towel full of ice, she walked back to the back room. Diana waited for Siobhan to shut the door behind her before taking off her headphones slowly and leaning into the aisle way to look after Siobhan. She slowly crept up closer towards the door and looked around to see if anyone was watching her. When she was satisfied that she was unnoticed, she crawled by the door and pressed her ear against it.

Siobhan walked over to JC and sat down beside him, facing him. “You have to move your hand.”

“Why?” JC asked.

“Because I can’t see what I did,” Siobhan said. “Here’s some ice for it.”

“Why didn’t you get a bag for it?”

“Because I couldn’t find one, besides this is a lot neater,” Siobhan explained, trying to gently push JC’s hand off his wound.

JC reluctantly let his hand drop from his forehead to his leg. He waited patiently for Siobhan to make the next move. Siobhan studied the bruise and touched it gently. JC yelped in pain and scared Siobhan.

“That didn’t hurt, I barely touched it!” Siobhan said, looking down at him.

“How would you know?” JC replied.

“Because I touched it, I would know!” Siobhan argued.

“But YOU can’t feel the pain,” JC snapped.

“Well if you weren’t such a big baby about this and just let me see it in the first place then I wouldn’t have to touch it as much to examine it!”

“Well if you didn’t come into the back room in such a hurry, then this wouldn’t have happened!” JC shot back.

“Oh now come on, you really think that’s a legitimate argument?” Siobhan asked, rolling her eyes.

“YES!”

Siobhan sighed exasperated, “I’m HELPING you aren’t I?”

“No, your just giving me more of a headache,” JC muttered.

Siobhan narrowed her eyebrows, “Well then let this be the LAST time I help you!” she yelled out.

Siobhan took the towel of ice and smacked it on JC’s forehead. JC groaned in pain and fell to the side grasping his head again. Siobhan covered her mouth with her hand and realized what she had done.

“Oooooh,” she groaned sympathetically.

“I should be the one saying that,” JC moaned.

“Sorry about that...” Siobhan said in a quiet voice, reaching her hand out again.

JC shook his head and pushed her hand out away from him. “I think it’ll just be better if you didn’t touch it anymore.”

“Well you know if you didn’t get me so mad about--”

“Do you ALWAYS have to argue with everything I say?” JC cut in.

Siobhan fell silent and bit her lip. She shook her head and rubbed her eyes tiredly. “I’m sorry.”

“You keep saying that, but I’m not so sure you are,” JC mumbled.

Siobhan’s mouth fell open, offended by his comment. “Are you serious? You really think I did this personally to get you back for some unknown reason?”

JC shrugged, “I wouldn’t know, you would.”

“I can’t believe you!” Siobhan exclaimed. “You really are classic you know that? Do you ever let people help you or is your male ego too much to let anyone past?”

JC sighed and rolled his eyes, “I let people help me, are you usually so kind to the people you ‘help’ or does your mouth get in the way?”

“My...?” Siobhan trailed off in shock. “I don’t know what side of the bed you woke up on this morning, but you can go BACK to bed and stop taking all your personal problems out on me!”

“I didn’t have a bad morning until you smacked me with the door,” JC said plainly.

Siobhan narrowed her eyebrows in annoyance and sighed exasperated. “Fine whatever, if your going to be a prick I’ll leave you alone...”

JC looked up surprised at the use of language Siobhan had used and studied her. Siobhan bit her lip and took a deep breath to compose herself. She wouldn’t usually let her mouth run like that because of her professional side, but JC had gotten her so worked up, she slipped.

“I’m sorry I let my temper get the best of me,” she replied in a low tone.

JC nodded slowly and continued to stare at her.

Siobhan fidgeted nervously and looked around, trying to find something to stare at. Her eyes darted around the back room while JC’s still stayed on her. Siobhan began to get up when JC grabbed her wrist. Siobhan looked down at his hand, then back at him with accusing eyes.

“Excuse me, can I help you?” Siobhan asked, jerking her wrist out of his grip.

JC pulled her back down on the couch beside him and tightened his grip on her wrist. “Don’t leave.”

Siobhan stopped straining to get out of his grip and sighed. “Why?”

“Because,” he said softly. “Because I don’t want you to.”

“Well a minute ago you sure seemed like you didn’t like me being here,” Siobhan muttered.

“Let’s not go in that direction again, please,” JC said gently, looking over at her.

Siobhan sighed, “All right it’s a deal, we’re both a little grouchy and I admit we let our pride go first instead of our integrity.”

JC nodded and smiled faintly. He loosened his grip on her wrist but didn’t let go all the way. He clutched the ice to his forehead and sighed deeply. He was trying to think of something to say in order to keep Siobhan in the back room with him, but his mind kept coming up blank.

Siobhan sighed and looked around the room, trying to find something interesting to study, but found nothing. She kept sneaking peeks over at JC and didn’t know what to say or do. Suddenly, something came over Siobhan and she began giggling.

JC looked up surprised and puzzled, over a Siobhan. Siobhan caught his look and began laughing harder.

“What? Is my bruise really that bad?” JC asked, lightly touching his forehead.

Siobhan shook her head and continued to laugh. JC looked over and shook his head, not knowing what was so amusing to her.

“Then what is it?” he asked curiously.

“Just the whole situation,” Siobhan managed to get out between giggles.

“You find this situation FUNNY? Me being knocked in the head with a door, then both of us losing our tempers and you smacking ice on my wound?” JC asked in part disbelief. “Are you feeling ok Siobhan?”

Siobhan burst into a laughter and nodded her head. JC watched her laugh and couldn’t help but look at her strangely.

“What am I missing here? I have a feeling it’s a lot,” JC said.

“I finally understand your sense of humor,” Siobhan blurted out.

JC look at her curiously. “Excuse me?”

“You sense of humor...I finally understand it,” Siobhan repeated.

“No I HEARD you, I just don’t know what your talking about.”

“You and the guys have this weird sense of humor that I never seem to understand and now I finally get it...in fact I even see why it’s so funny,” she laughed,

JC continued to stare at her in puzzlement. “I don’t quite understand...” he trailed off.

Siobhan shook her head, “Don’t try.”

JC studied her for a few more minutes when he couldn’t help but begin to giggle himself. His giggles turned into muffled laughter, which eventually fell into loud hearty laughs. Both of them held their stomachs and leaned back, laughing together.

Diana stood up carefully and looked at the door strangely. She wasn’t sure if she was just imagining things or if it was actually possible that JC and Siobhan were actually laughing at the same time and about the same thing, each other. Diana stared at the door for awhile longer before finally reaching for the knob. Before she swung the door open she knocked softly on the door. After getting no response, she knocked louder. Siobhan and JC were so caught up in their amusement, they didn’t hear Diana banging on the door. Diana finally got fed up and flung the door open, bursting into the back room.

She found the JC and Siobhan practically falling off the couch in a fit of laughter. Diana put her hands on her hips and tilted her head to the side to study the two of them. They both looked up, finally realizing she was in the room and began trying to contain their laughter. By now JC’s towel full of ice had been flown to the floor and was lying in a pile. He quickly straightened out his shirt and sat up correctly, picking up his towel of ice. He placed it back on his wound and smiled sheepishly at Diana.

Siobhan managed to get control of herself and take a few breaths to calm herself down. She looked up at Diana with a goofy grin and smiled shyly. Diana continued to look back and forth at the two of them, giving a look of wonder.

“Ok I give, what’s so damn funny?” Diana asked, arms dropping to her sides.

Siobhan and JC didn’t look at each other, just focused their stare on Diana. Diana looked at them curiously. Siobhan and JC looked at each other in the corner of their eyes before falling into muffled laughter again.

“Are you going to answer me or what?” Diana asked, getting slightly impatient. “I don’t get what’s so funny.”

Siobhan shrugged nonchalantly and JC broke into loud laughter again. This caused Siobhan to grunt loudly, trying to hold in her own laughter. Finally she couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into loud laughter alongside with JC.

Diana looked back and forth at the both of them, before throwing her hands up in the air with frustration and stomping out of the back room. She muttered something about the two of them being crazy and shut the door behind her.

Siobhan wiped the tears from her eyes and leaned back on the couch with a deep sigh. She didn’t know what had triggered the laughter but it had seemed like the right thing to do, as weird as that might have sounded. It had worked though, for the first time in her life, she had a true genuine laugh alongside someone and she actually enjoyed it. She had laughed and laughed until her sides hurt and her eyes teared, it felt good.

Siobhan couldn’t believe it, for the first time in a long time, she experienced something she thought she was never going to experience, happiness. But what surprised her the most was, she experienced it with JC.

“Si FINALLY!” Mike exclaimed over the phone.

Siobhan sighed and shook her head, she was having such a great time without talking to Mike, but as the saying goes, all good times must come to an end.

“Have you been trying to reach me?” she asked in a bored tone.

“YES!” Mike replied. “I knew you were coming back to Cali for awhile so I arranged for you to stay at your apartment.”

“You arranged? What would you do if I did it anyway?” Siobhan asked, already catching an attitude.

Mike sighed, “I missed you too.”

“Funny, I don’t remember saying I missed you and I STILL don’t,” Siobhan said dryly. “What is it you called about?”

“I wanted to arrange to meet somewhere so you can show me what you’ve dug up so far,” Mike replied, ignoring Siobhan’s obvious ignorance towards him.

“That’s none of your business,” Siobhan said plainly.

“Like hell it isn’t, I’m the one who put you on this damn assignment and I’m the one who goes over your work,” Mike said getting annoyed. “Don’t try and play Miss Powerful with me Si I have a lot more power than you will EVER know and I call the shots.”

“You know what Mike? I don’t like your tone of voice,” Siobhan said with sweet sarcasm. “Didn’t your mother ever tell you to ask politely for things you want? You get them much easier that way.”

“Si I’m not in the mood for your deeply sarcastic comments here, I want to see the work you’ve done so far and I want to see your actually DOING it, so pick a time and place or I will and I’ll be sure you’ll be there,” Mike said, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

“My my we ARE pushy today aren’t we?” Siobhan asked, trying to avoid setting a time and place to meet with him. “Did you take your nap today? Or more importantly your medication?” Siobhan asked with a small chuckle.

“Si I swear, don’t mess with me right now, I’m under a lot of stress and I’m busting my ass for your cover, so stop being such a bitch and just pick a time and place unless you want me to and I’ll be sure to pick one where we’re alone and away from any interruptions,” Mike growled in a low tone.

Siobhan stayed silent for a moment and thought about his words. “You know what Mike? I’m busting MY sorry ass for YOU so don’t give me this shit that YOUR stressed and act like I don’t know how it feels because I’m more at risk right now then you are. I’ll meet you whenever the hell I want to and IF I want to for that matter...though I don’t, I will so you’ll get off my ass about this whole damn thing and leave me be. Oh and the NEXT time you make a comment like that about location I’ll bring your ass so quickly into the courtroom for harassment and threat charges you won’t know what hit you, so remember who your playing with right now.”

This time is was Mike’s turn to remain silent. Mike debated on fighting back with words, but decided against it, Siobhan could be a stubborn girl when it came to getting things her way and if he wanted to see if she was making any progress at all in her assignment he was going to have to go along with her rules for this round. But he was sure to make it known to her, just because she won this round, didn’t mean she would ever win any other.

“Fine Si, whatever you want,” Mike said quietly.

Siobhan was thrown off by his sudden agreement to her way. “What’s the catch?” she asked suspiciously.

“No catch, whenever and wherever you want to meet, I’ll meet,” Mike said calmly. “Just please promise me you’ll actually make the time and meet me somewhere, I really need to know how your coming along and everything.”

“Maybe,” Siobhan said lightly. “Maybe not.”

Mike sighed, trying to hold back his frustration. “Where do you want to meet?”

“I’ll call you when I decide,” Siobhan said slowly.

“Si come on--” Mike began.

“Bye Mike, see you soon...maybe,” she said sweetly, before hanging up on him.

Siobhan smiled to herself, obviously amused by the difficult time she was putting Mike through just so he could meet her somewhere. Truthfully she didn’t want to see him, it was already bad enough to have to talk to him once in awhile, but to see him, that would take a lot of patience from her and she wasn’t sure that she had that at that moment in time. Maybe later.

“Chev?” Chris asked, breaking through her thoughts.

“Yeah?” she responded.

“Are you coming or what here?”

“Yeah I’m coming, sorry I was talking to someone and they wouldn’t get off the phone with me,” she said standing up and scooping up her things.

“Well if you want to stay on the bus for longer than needed, that’s all about you,” he said with a playful laugh.

Siobhan shot him a look and smiled. She slipped her cell phone into her bag and stood up, checking to see if she forgot anything. When she was satisfied that she didn’t she headed for the exit of the bus. She climbed off the bus and inhaled deeply. It felt good to be back in her home state and she suddenly understood the feeling Justin and Lance had, had when they had the opportunity to stay in Tennessee and Mississippi. Siobhan had a bright smile on her face and she walked with a bounce in her step.

Siobhan was ushered off to the side quickly and straight into the hotel lobby. She suddenly realized she was staying at her own apartment and wondered what she had to do in order to let people know that.

“Miss Westing?” a voice asked behind her.

Siobhan spun around and looked up to find an elder lady standing in front of her. “Yes?”

“I was told that you have a place to stay while we’re staying in California, though the company is very uneasy about that, we were told it was family so we’re more reassured by that,” the woman explained.

Siobhan nodded, so that’s how Mike had “arranged” for her to stay at her own place. “Yes it’s family, you know how it is.”

The woman nodded and smiled, “The limo will be escorting you back to the location your staying unless someone was planning on picking you up.”

Siobhan thought about it for a moment, “No not really, but I would prefer to take a cab if that’s all right.”

The woman hesitated, “Actually we would prefer if you took the limo, just so we know you safely made it back to your planned location.”

Siobhan opened her mouth to protest when she shut it instead. “All right, if that’s less trouble, then I’ll take the limo.”

The woman smiled and seemed to let out a breath of relief. “Very well, the limo will be leaving in about forty five minutes to an hour, I hope that’s all right.”

Siobhan nodded her head, usually she would protest and throw a fit until she got her way, but she was in a good mood and actually didn’t mind this time. She knew she was going home and she was just content with knowing that fact.

The woman smiled again and walked away without another word. Siobhan looked around and debated on something to do for the next hour to occupy herself. She spotted the hotel’s restaurant and decided to grab something to eat and just scope out the surroundings.

She walked into the entrance with her travel things and sat down at a table. She placed her things neatly on the floor and sighed. A waiter came up to her and smiled with a notepad in hand.

“May I take your order?” he asked politely.

Siobhan picked up a menu and studied it carefully. “I’ll just take a cappuccino,” she said, finally deciding.

The waiter nodded his head and scribbled down her order on his notepad. He took her menu and walked away to place in her order. Siobhan leaned on the table, resting her weight on her elbows and gazed around the room.

“Ah such an innocent look you have about you,” a voice said from behind. Siobhan jumped and turned her head to find JC standing there with a small grin on his face. “Mind if I join you?”

Siobhan smiled and motioned for him to sit. JC sat across from her and shifted once before he rested comfortably in his seat.

“How’s your head?” Siobhan asked with a small smile.

JC grinned in response, “Better.” He leaned back in his chair and gazed over at Siobhan. “I heard you won’t be staying with us while were in California.”

Siobhan nodded her head, “I’m staying with some family.”

“Who?” JC asked instinctively.

Siobhan shrugged, “Just some family.”

JC laughed lightly, thinking Siobhan was being sarcastic, “I see, do they have names?”

Siobhan nodded and tried to brush off his questions, “Yeah, mom and dad.”

JC smiled at her come back, “Are they coming to the show?”

Siobhan immediately shook her head, “No.”

“Why not? I think they should come, we could get them tickets and that way we could meet them then--”

“Their busy,” Siobhan cut in with a snap.

JC paused and noticed the sudden hostile tone she had just used. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to--”

“Forget it,” Siobhan said with a small shake of her head. “I think I need to be going now, I need to wait for my ride.”

“But--”

“I’ll see you tonight,” Siobhan said simply, standing up to leave. Siobhan gave JC one last look and picked up her belongings, before walking out the restaurant entrance. JC was left dumbfounded, staring after her.

Diana plopped down in front of JC and broke him from his gaze. “Keep staring like that and she might actually NOTICE,” Diana said with a small laugh.

JC shook his head, “I don’t get her, one minute we’re laughing like old friends and the next minute she runs off like I just told her she has something on her face.”

Diana snorted softly, “Sorry, that was just an odd use of words you used there.”

JC sighed, “You know what I mean D.”

Diana nodded, “Siobhan is secretive, but you can’t push her to tell you things, you just need to wait for her to tell YOU.”

“The rate I’m going she’s never going to tell me anything,” JC said, narrowing his eyebrows. “I’m going to find out what she’s hiding so secretively and I’m going to make it better.”

Diana studied him for a moment before speaking, “I think you look into things too much.”

JC shrugged, “Maybe sometimes I do, but with her, I think I’m right and I’ll prove it.”
