At the turn of the 21st century, the issue of Human Rights has become a crucial one. As the world is becoming smaller, the issue of human rights is no longer confined in the boundaries of a nation state. It has become central to any assessment of a government's legitimacy and a core element of international relations. There has been a growing need to involve governments and international organizations to address the issue of human rights violations in the Latin America, southern Africa, eastern Europe, and Asia.
One reason why Human rights has drawn a lot of attention the last years is because there is an increased awareness that economic activities without respect for human rights does not result in true development. It can actually increase economic and social inequalities within a society. It also has a negative effect in foreign investment because it drives away investors.
I have chosen to work with the issue of human rights because to me globalization means economic development across borders with a human face. Economic development that does not account for political, social and cultural factors in a country is not development for the people or by the people. And in a country where there are human rights violations and the people are not democratically represented there cannot be progress.
In this presentation, I want to focus n how Human rights have become an international issue with globalization and the influence of different international political and economic actors. It is important to look at factors such as human rights violations because internal factors like these which in the past have been the business of the government only is what hinders growth and the development of many of the third world countries.
