The Lone Gunmen have contacts and inside knowledge in a diversity of fields and supply Mulder with sometimes reliable and unknown information regarding political conspiracies, UFO sightings, and goverment agencies and their secretive operations. They also have a great eXpertise on various fly species and expertimental insecticides, human DNA, the mating habits of zoo animals, Nazi war criminals, Japanese shipping routs, package retrieval and the technology used to heighten the impression left by writing on paper, sophisticated television emitting signals used for mind  control, and the cover infiltration of research facility via subterranean tunnels.

Langly, Frohike, and Byers formed the Lone Gunmen and started their own conspiracy  newsletters, The Lone Gunman and The Magic Bullet, when the conspiracy  was proved to them, evidence shown right before their eyes. They once had another member only known as The Thinker. There was very little said about him in the x-files, but you can find out more about him below.
