Birth of John the Baptist.
Prophecy had revealed a strange personage sent by God, who would precede the Messiah, and herald the joy of his arrival on the earth.  This peculiar man was John the Baptist, who came preaching repentance, and baptizing the penitent multitudes, in the river Jordan.  He baptized Jesus in its limpid waters, who received the seal of divine approval, and henceforth went upon His high mission, as minister to the world.
