Official Statement:
This hereby states that in any game play where there is any controversy, this official rule book is to be the final and only verdict to any disagreements and or uncertainty.
Article 1. Section 1
Pitching:
1. 4 balls reset count, 4 more is a walk. 2. 3 strikes is an out. 3. Pitcher must always be in contact with the rubber (never behind or in front). 4. When ball makes contact with the tire it is called a strike. 5. A foul ball on the 3rd strike, hitting the tire is a called strike 3 and the batter is out. 6. Pitcher has total control on the type of release he chooses. 7. Intentional walks are allowed at any time of the game and with any game situation. You can only intentionally walk the same person once, and you are limited to one per inning. 8. A pitcher can pick a runner off if the runner is leading and the ball beats the runner to the base. 9. There are NO balks in wiffle ball, however if the ball was to leave the pitchers’ hand it will be counted as a pitch whether a ball or a strike. 10. When a pitcher is pulled from the game he is no longer eligible to pitch again. 11. A pitcher must have at least 1 game rest between his last and upcoming start, he is only eligble for relief after 4 innings pitched. Any pitcher can relieve but only for a maximum of two innings and still be able to appear in the next game. 12. A pitchers’ comfort while pitching is his RIGHT, however his feet must be making contact with the rubber at all times.
Article 1. Section 2
Fielding:
1. A double play is only official when the person receiving the ball has contact with the base. (around the base DOES NOT count!) 2. A ball beating the runner to the base or hitting the runner is an out. 3. A ball hit into the trees and then caught is an out. But off any other object (house,porch,grill,pool deck, etc.) is live and in play. 4. When a fielder throws the ball over any fence in the park the runner is safe and is granted one base. 5. If the ball makes contact with the base at the same time of the runners’ foot, the runner is safe. 6. Automatic infield fly rule is always in effect when there is a force play to third base or home (runners on 1st and 2nd / or loaded bases). 7. Runners interference during play will be called an out if umpire finds it necessary. 8. Runner hit by ball directly off the bat is an out. 9. There is no out of play anywhere in the park. A fielder can catch a pop up or fly ball anywhere in the park. 10. A ball hit on the porch is in play, however if fielder cannot find the ball, he is to raise his hands and the runner is granted a ground rule double. 11. Same rule applies to a fielder if it is hit into a bush or shrub,etc. 12. When a play is made where the fielder attemps to throw the ball to a teammate and the ball is dropped , but has still beat the runner to the base, THE RUNNER IS SAFE!(any attemps to throw a ball to a teammate to make an out, eliminates the rule of throwing pass the base and beating the runner.)
Article 3. Section 1
Games Basic Rules :
1. Any ball that’s hits the gutter of the blue monster is NOT a homerun.Must be on the roof! 2. Any ball that hits the trees or any other objects, but still goes over the fence is still a homerun. 3. A ball hit off the side of the house that continues over the fence is a homerun. 4. An official game is 7 innings with 2 outs an inning. 5. A called game do to the weather or any other occurrences will be an official game if the 5th inning is completed. 6. Any game stopped before 5 innings of play will be continued within 2 days where it left off or a new game will be played. 7. Whoever is responsible for a ball going over the fence has to get the ball! NO EXCUSES! 8. Any fan interference that affects gameplay, the fan will be removed from McVey Park grounds.
Closing Statement
All of these rules were well thought out and took into considerations for the enjoyment of the high level of play in wiffleball for the 2001 season. Respect the field and other players at all times. Experience the excitement and feel the history that lives in McVey Park.
