1: we (some of us) are girls. we are raised on slush. we therefore develop a slush dependancy. we need to feed this addiction. like in that film.
2: prequel kenobi is ewan mcgregor. ewan mcgregor is 'of the pretty'. most girls (and some boys) like pretty boys.
3: kenobi slush is therefore appealing. we have to project and give him romance.
4: the potential candidates for said projection are all either boys (for the above reasons disqualified) or amidala.
5: amidala is fourteen.
6: aunt beru is fabulous. she is not fourteen. with effectively no backstory, aunt beru is fully applicable to any girly slush scenario.
7: what, that's not enough?

much is said of the on-screen 'tension' 'twixt obi and qui. less had been said about the 'tension' 'twixt obi and ami. (since this is based on a solitary line about droid armies, that's perhaps understandable). next to nothing (zero) has been said about the obi/beru tension in ep4. granted, they never meet, but they still have an obvious simmering passion going on. this is why owen (*spit*) hates kenobi.
