• Neo (Thomas A. Anderson) - Neo is played by Keanu Reeves and he is what the entire story is centered around. He begins as a computer programmer who works for a respectable software company in what looks to be New York City. He had been spending many years of his time and energy to look for a man that goes by the name of Morpheus. Neo believes that Morpheus can lead him to the truth and find what he has been always looking for, The Matrix. 
  

• Trinity - Trinity is a very powerful woman who like Neo, was saved by Morpheus and she too was also a former hacker like Neo. When she first went to see the Oracle, the Oracle told her that she would one day fall in love with the one. This destiny of hers would play a key part in the end of this epic film. 
  

• Morpheus - Morpheus plays a father like figure where the rest of the characters all look up to him. Being one of the original people that who was rescued from the matrix, Morpheus proves to be the older and more wise one out of the group. He teaches his students the ways of survival and how to avoid being caught by an agent at all costs. Morpheus always was the building block of all the characters and he was the "leader". He always believed that Neo would be the one and he may have been right when the plot all boils down. 
  

• Agent Smith - Agent Smith is in the role of the bad guy throughout the movie. He is the gatekeeper inside the Matrix and he tries to prevent the "rebel group" from making it out alive. His goal was always to capture Morpheus so that he could attain the access codes that has always kept the machines outside of Xion (the last human city). The Agents were always the dominating force inside of the Matrix and they could not be beaten. Every single person who had ever opposed an Agent died trying. That was true up until Neo came around. He proved to be better and faster than the Agents.
