Traditional Foods

The Greeks have many traditional appetizers, salads and dishes to their name, here is a basic layout of some traditional greek foods.

Appetizer
Meze is the main appetizer and it begins many meals. Meze consists of tomato, cheese, fish,octopus, eel or olives served with gape stems which is flavoured with ainseed.

Salad
Feta cheese, tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber, olives, oregano and time capers are the ingredients that comprise the main salad. The main salad eaten in greece is “Hor-ia-ti-ki Sa-la-ta” or just the village salad. Most often it is pre-dressed with oil and vinegar and if not it is your job to dress it youreslf.

Main course
Greek main courses can be either tou fournou (baked), vrasto (boiled), tighanito (fried), psito (roasted) or ths skaras (grilled).
Mousakka is a well known egg plant casserole. The eggplant along with ground beef, cheese, butter and spices are layered.
Pasticho is also another popular main course, pasta baked with roast beef
OR
Kokoretsi which is skewered an roasted lamb insides; the heart, liver and kidney wrapped in the intestines. Ewwwww!!!!!

Greek Crepes
Greeks also eat a lot of crepes or pancakes. When served, the crepes are piled on top of one another and other food items such as ham, cheese, chicken, bacon, green peppers and potato chips can be eaten with them!!
You can also find sweet crepes served with ice-cream, banana, nuts, whipped cream and, you guessed it, chocolate!
