Chapter 10

:

Taylor stood silently with his arms across is chest, outside of Sarah's hospital room. Linda, Sarah's mother was there and she was talking with a nurse, about her condition.

"I'm sorry mame. I really don't know, you'll have to talk with the doctor," The nurse said and walked on down the hall.

"Can you believe this people? They don't take their jobs seriously anymore. People just don't care about other people's children. And, Sarah wouldn't even be here if they hadn't let her out of that home in Oakwood," Linda replied to Taylor, who had sunk down and was now sitting on the floor.

"What happened again? She tried to cut herself?" Linda asked Taylor seriously.

Well after my brother's left, she ran into the bathroom. I tried to get her to open up and try to talk to me, so when she finally did open the door, she had the razor in her hand," He spoke quietly, trying to relay the situation.

Linda let out a sigh of frustration and looked away. "Im sorry about this Taylor. I knew this really isn't any of your concern but I'm glad she was with you....I remember when you two were little. I used to bring Sarah over to your house and you two would have the most fun playing and running around," Linda gave a slight smile.
"You and Isaac would chase her around, and Sarah would get her dress all dirty. Then you would be the nice one to try and help her up...She may not tell you this, but Sarah was really sad when you guys left for California. It was like you had taken her sadness away. She used to talk all about you and your brother. But, especially you. She seemed to feel a strong connection with you...." The woman ran her hands through her messy hair and started to walk down the hall, when a man came out of the psychiatric ward.

Taylor stood up as the man aproached him and Linda.
"Excuse me. Are you Mrs. Johnson?"
"Yes," Linda replied.
"I'm Dr. McMillen. I've been watching Sarah's charts and I have some good and bad news."
"Oh God. Just what I need," Linda gave a slight laugh again. She ran her hands through her hair again. Taylor could tell that she was ready to brake down herself.

"Im sorry to tell you mame. But your daughter has a rare case of manic depression. This means that she can be happy one minute, then ready to kill someone the next. Because of her agression, she gets angry easier than most. But we think that, that is all in her head. Like you said, we think that she would never intentionally hurt anyone. She's just very unstable with her emotions," The doctor explained, slowly.
"I just think that we should keep her here in a day or so, then we'll give her some pills to take to calm her nerves."

The doctor went in to check on another patient and Linda, got on an elevator. She mumbled something to Taylor about getting some coffee or beer. Taylor himself, really didn't know what he was still doing there. He didn't really even know this girl, but he found himself looking through the glass and into her room.
He walked quietly into the room and over to Sarah's bed. She was hooked up to a couple of monitors and she had white bandages on both of her wrists.
"This doesn't look like the girl at Chucky Cheese's he saw the night of Zoe's birthday." Taylor thought to himself as he stared down at Sarah.
He could tell she was breathing softly and he was looking closely at the bandages on her arms.

He softly ran a finger over one of the white bandages and it felt like rough tissue paper. He noticed that it was wrapped so tightly around her wrist, that it was cutting her circulation. He tried to get a finger in between her wrist and the bandage, but he couldn't.
Taylor ran a finger softly down her hand and picked it up. Her hands were skinner then they had been earlier and he could see the little white vains running down her palm.
Her hand felt cold and Taylor put it up to his face and gently kissed it.

"What are you doing?!" asked a large woman who had came into the room. She had red hair that was pulled up into a bun, and and a clip board was in her hand. She stared at Taylor as though he had just slapped her face.
"Do you know this girl?" She asked him again. This time, more insistantly.

"Uh..no..Im a friend," He stammered quietly. He dropped her hand lighly back on the bed and stepped back away from her.

"Well, I don't think this is visiting hours. In fact, we really don't encourage visiting hours that much. If you need to know the condition of this girl, I suggest you talk to a nurse. She needs rest, I think you need to leave," The woman looked sternly at Taylor until he excused himself and went out into the hall.

Sarah's mother was standing out into the hall and when she saw Taylor coming out of Sarah's room, she looked hopeful.
"Is she awake? Did they let you see her?" Her eyes shone with a small fraction of hope.

"No mame. They told me that no one was aloud into see her. I guess I need to get going," He replied and headed toward the elevator.
"Do you want me to walk you out to your car?" Taylor asked as he turned back around to face Linda.

"No. I think I need to speak with the doctor so more, but thank you Taylor," He saw that the worry had drained back into her face. "I'll call you if anything changes. I'll let Sarah know that you were here."

Taylor went down to the first floor and out into the chilly January cold. He got into his car and turned on the heat. The time was already 12:30 in the morning and he needed to get some rest.
"Man, why am I so hung up on this girl" He asked himself as he drove out of the parking lot and home to his lonely apartment.
