Kaitlyn sighed as she ran a brush through her hair again and then looked at her outfit in the mirror double checking that she looked alright, like she cared that much, but she wanted to at least look presentable.
“You’re wearing that?” Kaylee asked with a sickened look on her face.
Kaitlyn looked down at her jeans and at her pink top with bell sleeves. “What’s wrong with it?”
Kaylee shook her head and said, “Nothing, never mind. Let’s go.”
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes as she followed Kaylee out of the apartment.
Chapter 8
“Are you ready yet?” Kaylee asked impatiently later that night.
Kaylee the fashion police. I swear if it’s not showing my stomach or my chest or my legs it’s not acceptable. She can kiss my ass because I’m just going out with her tonight so she’ll leave me the hell alone. Seriously, she knows how much I hate to go out and club. I really don’t see a point in it. But she promised that she’d never ask me again. I should have had her put that in writing. God knows she’ll find a way around it. I’m just too damn nice. I like to please everyone and I need to just stop doing that. Because I end up doing shit I don’t like, i.e. tonight.
And she has a something planned with Nick. That makes me nervous. Let me rephrase that, it scares the living shit out of me. Is that better? Because I know Kaylee and I just know it’s not going to end pretty seriously. Like I said before, will I be able to have an intelligent conversation with this boy? Actually, will I be able to answer in more than one word? Because I feel that may happen. Truthfully, he intimidates me and it’s not supposed to be like I’m supposed to be intimidating him. Not him me. You see? And when I’m talking to rather good looking men who intimidate me, which I must add hardly ever happens, I get flustered and I don’t know what to say. I sound like an uneducated schoolgirl, it’s sad.
“You want a drink?” Kaylee asked as they walked into the club and started over towards the bar.
“Nah,” Kaitlyn replied as she scanned the crowd of people.
Kaylee rolled her eyes as she waited for a bartender to come over her way. She looked back at Kaitlyn who was still scanning the crowd and shook her before she ordered her drink. She looked back over at Kaitlyn and asked, “Are you going to at least try to have some fun?”
Kaitlyn sighed as she looked over at Kaylee, she just won’t ever give up. “Kaylee, just stop.”
Kaylee looked at Kaitlyn for a minute and then grabbed her drink and then Kaitlyn’s arm as they made their way through the crowd.
“Where are you taking me?”
Kaylee just looked back at Kaitlyn flashing a cheesy grin as they continued to walk through the crowd of people.
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes and proceeded to follow Kaylee.
Kaylee walked up the stairs and into the little VIP area she stopped and looked around for a minute and then started to walk again, still holding onto Kaitlyn’s arm. Kaitlyn was looking around her and didn’t notice that Kaylee had stopped she kept on walking and ran right into Nick’s chest. She backed away from him and mumbled something along the lines of sorry as she covered her face that was turning a few different shades of pink.
So now I’ve bumped into Nick’s chest and I’m pretty sure my face has turned about ten different shades of pink. Definitely need to hurt Kaylee later. Definitely.
Nick smiled at Kaitlyn and extended his hand, “Hi it’s nice to see you again.”
Kaitlyn looked at his hand and then back at him before she grabbed it and shook it lightly and then let go. “You too,” She replied looking around.
“You want a drink?”
Kaitlyn shook her head no.
“Ok, how about we go over here. It’s quieter we can talk.”
Kaitlyn groaned inwardly as she followed him reluctantly.
Nick sat down and then Kaitlyn sat down at the opposite side as Nick.
Nick smiled at her.
She smiled back and then looked back around looking for Kaylee, she just disappeared.
“So? You’re in college?”
Kaitlyn looked back at him and nodded as she looked at him as he sprawled out a little he crossed his leg over his over than, like most men do, what was he trying to do? She shook her head and looked away and then looked back at him. She pressed her lips together trying to laugh but it wasn’t working.
“What?” Nick asked looking at her.
She pointed at his pants, “Your zipper is undone.” She said seriously and then looked away.
Nick rolled his eyes as he tried to zip his pants back up nonchalantly, but he was going to have to stand up to do it. He stood up and Kaitlyn looked at him, “I’ll be back,” He said and then walked off while Kaitlyn shook her head and leaned back crossing her legs.
“Hey what are you doing?” Kaylee asked Nick as he walked out of the bathroom.
Nick shook his head and replied, “Men’s bathroom.”
“No shit. Where’s Kaitlyn?”
“Probably laughing her ass off,” Nick replied rolling his eyes.
“Why?”
“She had to point out that my fly was undone.”
Kaylee started to laugh but stopped herself a couple of times and then just busted out laughing. She started to bend over to catch her breath she was laughing so hard.
“Yeah, laugh all you want.”
“It happens to everyone sooner or later geez, it’ll be alright.” Kaylee replied still laughing.
Nick rolled his eyes and sighed as he pushed passed her and walked back to where Kaitlyn was sitting.
“All better?” Kaitlyn asked with an amused look on her face.
Nick nodded and downed the rest of his drink.
Kaitlyn looked around and then back at him and then back around at everyone else; she was starting to get bored.
“So?”
“So…”
“You’re in college?” Nick asked for the second time.
She nodded.
“What are you majoring in?”
“Law.”
“You wanna be a lawyer?”
“Yeah, that’s usually what you study law for,” Kaitlyn replied sarcastically.
“Ok,” Nick replied getting slightly frustrated with her.
Kaitlyn sighed.
“So you like to argue?”
Kaitlyn looked over at Nick and shook her head, “No.”
“But lawyers argue.”
“Yes they do. I want to be a lawyer to make a difference. Not to argue. I want to help people that need help.”
Nick just nodded; this was not working out like it should.
Man, either he isn’t all that intelligent or he is nervous or he’s frustrated with me. Because seriously I don’t want to talk about me I’d rather talk about things we like or things we might have in common. His conversation skills aren’t the best.
So, I do feel a little bad about the whole zipper thing. I was just simply being observant, I’d like for someone to tell me if my zipper is undone you know. So he shouldn’t be embarrassed but I could see that he was. That was just too adorable.
Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt and actually try.
“Thank you for all the gifts, you didn’t have to do it but thank you,” Kaitlyn said as she smiled at him.
Nick, who was about to give up, looked over at him and grinned, “You’re welcome.”
“I’m not really a gift type of girl though.”
Nick moved in his seat to look at her more, “What do you mean?” He asked.
“I don’t need gifts,” She replied shrugging.
“Well how else is someone going to show you they like you?”
“By talking to me, getting to know me, wanting to be my friend above anything else, not by sending me flowers that will wilt or chocolate that I shouldn’t eat to begin with because it’s just chocolate.”
Nick laughed and said, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
“I’m serious; you don’t have to buy a girl things to get her attention. Believe me especially you. Well, I can’t speak for all girls but things are just things. They may hold some special meaning but they are just things.”
“What did you mean by ‘especially you’?” Nick asked curiously.
“Uh… you’re good looking. You already have the attention of all the girls around you. Why buy them something to get what you already have?”
“Do I have your attention?” He asked as he scooted a little closer to her.
Kaitlyn sighed, “Not the attention you’re looking for but you have some of it.”
“What do you mean not the attention I’m looking for?”
“Nick, I have a lot going on I don’t want a relationship.”
“Who said I wanted one?”
“Fine I don’t want anything but a friendship right now. That’s all I can offer.”
“Fine.”
Kaitlyn looked up at him, “Fine?”
“Fine, if that’s all you can offer now then I’m going to take what I can get.”
“Huh?”
“I didn’t stutter.”
“I know.”
“So then why did you say huh?”
“Because you are agreeing, no one ever agrees it’s either all or nothing.”
“I’m not every other guy.”
“True.”
Nick smiled at her as he leaned back.
“So now that we are moving our way into a friendship I must tell you that you are in desperate need of a haircut.”
Nick laughed and shook his head.
“I’m serious, and then Sarah at work might shut up about how you look so unattractive with your hair like that and shit. I’m getting tired of it. I’m getting tired of her.”
“Did she like the autograph?”
“Like it? She thinks you love her now.”
“I do love her. I love all my fans.”
“She thinks you love her like you a girlfriend, she thinks you want her like you know want her. You have corrupted her and I get to hear about it.”
Nick licked his lips as he continued to laugh.
“I’m serious.”
“Going to commit murder?” Nick asked grinning at her.
She looked at her shocked that he remembered granted it was only the night before but boys aren’t supposed to remember things at all. “Nah.”
“That’s right you wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
Kaitlyn stared at him completely amazed, “No.” She replied smiling.
