Chapter 3
"Is that popcorn?" Kaylee asked, her voice hoarse, not even looking at Kaitlyn.
"Mm hmm," Kaitlyn replied as she started to eat some.
Kaylee moved propping herself on her elbow and looked at Kaitlyn. "I want some," She said whining.
Kaitlyn laughed and shook her head as she grabbed a handful and shoved it in her mouth and started moaning as she chewed it up.
"Bitch," Kaylee mumbled as she sat up on the couch tucking her legs underneath her.
"I heard you."
"Didn’t think you wouldn’t," Kaylee replied mockingly.
"Dude, what crawled up your ass?"
"Nothing, I have a headache."
"Maybe you’ll think twice about drinking so damn much huh?"
"Oh my god, all my hard work last night down the damn drain."
"Hard work? What exactly did you do?"
"I thought I had you transformed."
"What are you talking about?"
"I don’t have the slightest clue I’m babbling."
"Great," Kaitlyn muttered as she looked back at the TV.
"I got Nick’s phone number," Kaylee said grinning.
"Good for you," Kaitlyn replied in monotone with her eyes never leaving the TV.
"I know you want him."
"Sure," Kaitlyn replied sarcastically.
"Fine, then I’ll call him."
"Go for it," Kaitlyn replied still not looking at Kaylee.
"For you, I’ll see if he wants to go on a date or something," Kaylee replied as she grinned and then slowly got off the couch and walked into her bedroom.
Kaitlyn watched her walk into her room and close the door and then looked back at the TV.
Kaylee groaned as she fell out of bed. She grabbed her head groaning some more as she made her way into the living room. She flopped down on the couch she laid the back of her hand on her forehead as she dangled her legs off the arm of the couch. Kaitlyn walked out of the kitchen with her drink in one hand and a bowl of popcorn in the other. She shook her head as she looked at Kaylee and then sat down in the chair next to the couch.
I really hate when you know your friends well. Because I know that Kaylee will stick to her word. She’ll call him. Bitch. I don’t want her to. I don’t want, just this is stupid. Seriously. I mean come on, what are the chances that that was his real number? Or that he wants to date me? Oh god, I feel like I’m in high school again I swear, like Nick is Brant Johnson. Oh god. This is probably not a good thing. I hate Kaylee. She thinks she’s doing something wonderful for me, helping me out in any way possible. She’s a younger version of my mother I swear. Well damn it I don’t need help.
Now I’m in a pissy mood. What would I say to him? Could I carry on an intelligent conversation with him? I’m not saying he’s stupid but when I look at him I’m think that someone needs to pinch me because mere perfection is staring back at me. Ok, so maybe he isn’t perfect. But have you seen him up close and personal? I know I have a point. Plain and simple the boy is gorgeous and he knows it so he uses that to his advantage. I just don’t think I would have anything in common with him. That’s all.
Kaitlyn got up and walked over to Kaylee’s door. She pressed her ear against it and listened to her talk.
"Hello?"
"Hey. Nick?"
"Uh yeah, who’s this?"
"Kaylee."
"Kaylee? Don’t know any Kaylees."
"What? Hello, we were at the club together last night. Well sort of I was with my best friend Kaitlyn but she’s uptight and well I went to talk to you... You don’t remember do you?"
"Uh… nope."
"Anything?"
"From last night?"
"Duh!"
"No need for the attitude."
"Well?"
"I remember a little."
"Do you remember a spunky red head and her uptight shy brunette?"
"Hmm…"
"You’re pretending to think aren’t you?"
"No," Nick retorted as he started to laugh.
"Are you laughing at me?"
Nick pressed his lips together and replied, "Nah."
"You liar," Kaylee shouted into the phone while Nick and Kaitlyn, who was still listening, started laughing hysterically.
"I think I remember you now, small girl big mouth."
"Ha, you’re so funny. Ha ha… knee slapper," Kaylee replied sarcastically.
"Why thank you. I’m known for my comedic abilities."
"I thought you were known for being a man whore."
"Ouch."
"I bite hard."
"Huh?"
"Never mind," Kaylee replied shaking her head.
"So can I ask why you called because I mean so far this conversation has just been plain stimulating?"
"Wow, a four syllable word I’m impressed," Kaylee replied acting shocked.
Kaitlyn pressed her lips together and covered her mouth trying not to laugh out loud.
"Wow, a smart alec I’m not impressed."
"Ya know you’re not a nice person."
"That one hurt and you started it."
"Oh wow, we back in Jr. High now?"
"Ha ha… so want do you want?"
"I want you to go out with my friend."
"She anything like you?"
"No quite the opposite."
"Then I’m sure I’d like her."
"You know I feel like I can tell you anything now. We just have this connection ya know? You feel it?"
"What are you smoking?"
"I think your ass should have its own zip code. I can look into it if you want."
"Clever."
"Damn, you heard that before?"
"No comment. And leave the booty alone."
"You’re packing hella junk there Nick."
"Anyway, I’m hanging up now."
"So?"
"So what?"
"You going to go out with Kaitlyn or not?"
"Dude, psycho chick. I don’t even know you let alone your friend why would I agree to that?"
"I don’t know," Kaylee replied shrugging.
Nick shook his head.
"I have the feeling that you think I’m rather… hmm…"
"Annoying? Obnoxious? Let me know if I’m getting warmer."
"That hurt," Kaylee replied sniffing.
"Oh god," Nick said rolling his eyes.
"I can be a fun person."
Kaitlyn walked into her room and grabbed a pillow. She smashed her face against it as she started laughing so hard she started to cry.
"I bet you could be," Nick replied sarcastically.
"Fine, if you don’t want to go out with my friend. Go out with me."
Nick busted into a fit of laughter that lasted a good five minutes.
"Something funny?"
"You really think I’d go out with you? No offense but you’re crazy."
"You don’t know me."
"And I thank you for that. I suggest medical attention."
"I suggest lypo in the buttock area."
"Hanging up now."
"Fine," Kaylee yelled into the phone before she slammed it back down on the receiver.
Excuse me while I go laugh some more.
So I know I only heard one side of the conversation but I’m thinking it didn’t go as Kaylee had planned. Oh poor thing. She’s going to be pissy all day now. She always gets pissy when she doesn’t get her way. Spoiled bitch. Never had to work for anything. Psh.
"I’m going to work." Kaitlyn said as she grabbed her purse and the keys to her car.
"God, you work a lot."
"Well I’m sorry Kaylee I have to make my own money. I can’t just run to mommy and daddy begging for money."
Kaylee snorted in reply as Kaitlyn rolled her eyes and walked out of the apartment.
See what I mean? God, I could strangle her sometimes.
She drives me nuts. She thinks I’m uptight because I have a job, two actually, and I work and pay for my own shit. I try to tell her its responsibility and she should learn it. But she won’t have that.
I’ve been working ever since I was 16 because money was always tight around our house. Even though I was an only child, we just didn’t have it. My dad was a truck driver and my mom was a secretary, a mighty good one too, and well they may have made a lot but we hardly saw any of it. You see my mom was obsessed with Avon, Home Interiors, House of Lloyd and few other catalogs and things. She liked to buy things.
When I was 10 my parents had to file for bankruptcy, almost broke up their marriage. Even though then I didn’t really know what was going on, I still knew I didn’t want that to happen to me.
Like I said before Kaylee’s list of priorities and mine are two different things.
