Moving On
Weeks went by and Jerrica got back into her old routine with occasionally crying session and daydreaming of Nick. Wondering what he was doing at that exact time. If he was thinking about her or if he even thought about her. She finally convinced herself that she couldn’t help the way she felt and that it wasn’t meant to be, he was going to get married there was nothing she could do. At least that’s what she tried to tell herself, deep down she wanted to pull a Rachel on Friends, go to where ever his wedding is and try and break it up. One thing she knew that if she did get the balls to do that she’d go through with unlike Rachel did. After Jerrica thought more about it she just laughed at the thought of doing that to him and how public it would be and how crazy she would look.
"Hey Jerrica there is a delivery out at reception." Jeff said as he poked his head into her office.
"What is it?"
"A delivery." He replied as he walked off.
Jerrica sighed and slowly walked down the hall stopping as she saw the most beautiful bouquet of roses sitting there. She must have stood there for a few minutes with her mouth open just staring at them. Finally, she snapped back into reality, grabbed them and walked back down the hall. Once she was back in her office she sat down staring at the card debating if she wanted to see who sent the beautiful flowers. Finally, taking a deep breath she opened the card and read it out loud.
‘Special flowers for a special person who made me feel special. I know to many specials. But you are special to me. Meet me Friday night at the Have A Nice Day café. Seven. Please. Love Nick.’
Jerrica read it again and again and even one more time before it all registered. Nick sent the flowers. He said she was special. He wanted to meet her.
"Oh god." Jerrica said still staring at the card.
Jerrica was sitting on her couch staring at the flowers that were on the coffee table. Just thinking about what she wanted to do until the phone rang interrupting her thoughts. She stared at the phone then finally answered it hesitantly.
"Hello?"
"Jerrica Marie."
"Who is this?"
"That hurts girlie."
"Kelly?"
"The one and only."
"It’s been too long Johnson."
"I know Warden."
"What’s up?"
"Nothing really going to a concert in a few weeks I’m so excited about."
"Don’t tell me you still like the Backstreet Boys."
"I do shut the hell up. I don’t care what you think."
"Ok."
"So how is Florida?"
"It’s ok I guess."
"How is the little one?"
"Sleeping right now."
"That’s cool."
"How is New York?"
"Awesome as ever. I love it here. Too many famous people I swear I saw a guy that looked like Nick Carter the other day but he was too fast for me."
Jerrica laughed a little and said, "I worked with them about a month ago."
"And you didn’t call and tell me."
"Sorry."
"Aren’t they fucking hot?"
"I guess."
"You guess? Oh man, Nick is still my favorite god the things I would do to that boy. Damn. But it’s so sad he’s getting married him and his hoe set a date and he announced it on MTV not too long ago."
Jerrica’s heart sunk.
"You still there?"
"Yeah."
"So I just don’t know what I’m going to do now that he’s taken."
"When are they getting married?"
"In September… the 25."
"Oh just curious."
"Ok."
"Well Kelly I’m sorry to cut this short but some of us have to work in the morning so I’ll call you later this week. It was really good talking to you again. Have fun at college and in NYC."
"You know I will. Bye Jerrica."
"Bye."
Jerrica sat there letting everything Kelly said sink in. Nick was really going to get married and he wanted to meet her Friday? She didn’t get it.
Friday came all too quick for Jerrica she dreaded it more than anything in her life. She didn’t know if she wanted to go or not she didn’t know what would happen if she did go. It was all too confusing for her. That day of work went by in a daze Jerrica wondered about in the office not doing anything useful just thinking about what she should do. Five o’clock came around and the sick feeling in Jerrica’s stomach intensified as she left the building and headed toward her car.
Jerrica got home at the regular time and just stared into space as she sat on the couch. She weighed the pros and cons of what she should do but that didn’t work. Jerrica’s was interrupted by the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hello dear."
Jerrica groaned quietly as her mother’s voice filled her ears.
"How is my lovely grand daughter? When do I get to see her again?"
"She’s fine mom. And I don’t know when I’m visiting again."
"You can’t possibly think about depriving me from my grand daughter are you?"
"No mom."
"Well what’s wrong with you?"
"Nothing I have to go Alexis is coming home and I need to fix dinner. Bye mom love you." Jerrica said as she hung up not giving her mom time to reply.
Marge had called Jerrica and asked if it was ok if she took her daughter and Alexis to a movie before they came home. Jerrica didn’t care she usually did that on Friday nights they’d go to a movie then somewhere to eat. But tonight Jerrica couldn’t use the ‘I can’t find a babysitter’ excuse. It was fifteen minutes till seven o’clock and she was still sitting on her couch watching TV or at least trying to watch TV.
Nick sat in the back booth of the café with wondering eyes so he wouldn’t miss her come in. If she came, Nick silently prayed she would. He just wanted to talk to her really. There was no specific reason to why he wanted to see her. Ok there was he was having even more doubts about the wedding thing than from before and he thought maybe if he saw Jerrica she could be the answer he was looking for.
It was seven fifteen and Nick realized she wasn’t coming. He stood up and put some money on the table after he took one last drink. He turned around and was looking at those familiar blue eyes staring back at him. He smiled as he sat back down.
"I didn’t think you would come." He said as she sat down.
"Neither did I."
