Love Wasn't The Plan

Chapter 2

New Clients

Jerrica was so used to her morning routine it was almost like she was a robot while she was doing it. At six thirty her alarm went off and she started getting ready by seven she and Alexis were ready to go and out the door by eight. It was the same thing everything morning, Jerrica sometimes longed for a change.

When Jerrica arrived at her building she made sure she had her pass before she got out of her car. She walked up to the doors and three big men were standing in front of the door. She showed them her pass and they let her by. She walked over to the elevator and made her way up to the third floor. There was even two big men by the elevator when she got off. She was beginning to think it was ridiculous.

She walked in her office and before she sat down Jeff, her boss, came running in telling her to meet him in the conference room in five minutes. ‘Everyone is acting so weird.’ She thought as she made her way down the long corridor.

She pushed open the door and almost fell over. She looked around at everyone sitting at the tables and stopped right on the one person with the biggest smile.

"So Nick you got her the ring. When are you going to propose?" A.J asked Nick while they waited for the photographer.

"I don’t know now. She told me last night that she is going to Paris for this stupid fashion show thing. And she doesn’t know how long it’ll last." Nick replied just as the door to the room opened and he saw Jerrica again.

Jerrica had a seat next to her boss and the big boss Mr. Cleveland. They did all the necessary paperwork for any new client and then they had some extra things to do. By the time the meeting was over it was almost noon. Mr. Cleveland suggested either they all go out to lunch together or they ordered. All said go out. Jerrica didn’t want to go so she slipped out of the room and went back to her office. She wasn’t in there long until someone knocked. She looked up from her desk and saw Nick smiling. "You really are stalking me huh?" She asked as he sat down.

"You’re coming to lunch right?" He asked looking around her office and picking a picture of Alexis up.

"No, I’m going to stay here."

"Who is this?"

Jerrica was used to this question and the reaction she always got when she told whoever asked that it was her daughter. "It’s Alexis my daughter." She replied looking at him.

"Oh... she’s cute like her mom. So you have to come or I’m telling your boss and then he’ll make you come."

Jerrica sighed as she looked up at Nick again he was making a pouty puppy dog face. She couldn’t help but laugh at how stupid he looked but then again at how gorgeous he was. Jerrica scolded herself for thinking that he was much younger than her and that wouldn’t be right.

"Come on." Nick said whining.

"If I come will you not do that anymore?" She asked as Brian knocked on the door telling them they were getting ready to leave. Jerrica grabbed her purse and followed the two men out of her office.

They all rode in separate vehicles which Jerrica was thankful for she didn’t know why but she felt uncomfortable around Nick. Not all the Backstreet Boys just Nick. But she couldn’t avoid him all the time they would be working together so she decided just to ignore the feeling and get the job done.

After lunch Jerrica was in her office planning out the rest of the week. She was sure all the boys had left since they weren’t shooting until the next day so they had no reason of being there. But as soon as she thought that she was proved wrong when Nick walked in her office and sat down not saying a word.

"Can I help you Mr. Carter?" She asked not looking up at him.

"How old is your daughter?"

Jerrica looked up at him and answered, "Three."

"When’s her birthday?"

"January 28."

"Seriously?"

"No, Nick I’m lying about my child’s birthday."

"That’s my birthday."

"Oh."

"So you married?"

"What is this Nick twenty questions?"

"Nope, just want to get to know you."

"Why?"

"Well, you already know me it’s only fair."

Jerrica just shook her head and went back to her work. She didn’t want to talk about marriage.

"So are you?"

"Nick I don’t want to talk about that."

"Ok fine we’ll save that for later."

Jerrica continued working.

"I want to meet your daughter."

Jerrica immediately looked up at Nick with shock written all over her face. "Why?"

"Why not?"

"No, seriously why do you want to meet Alexis?"

"Because I like kids a lot. They are fun to play with."

"Because you both are so much alike?"

"No, I just like kids. And having kids around but not my own cause I couldn’t handle that. But you know other people’s kids are nice the ones you don’t have to change their diapers and all."

Jerrica didn’t reply she just looked at Nick and began to laugh.

"So when can I come over so I can play with Alexis?"

Jerrica just laughed at his question it was quite amusing to her. Nick didn’t understand why she was laughing. She didn’t get a chance to explain because was five o’clock and Jerrica was heading home.

"Well, Nick I’ll see you tomorrow." She said and walked out leaving him sitting there.

He sat there a little while longer looking very carefully a her pictures, some more of Alexis, one of her and some friends he assumed but she looked much younger, then one of her and a guy that was really old Jerrica had long hair. He was about to leave when he saw the notebook Jerrica had writing in laying on her desk. As soon as he picked it up he got the best idea.

Nick smiled to himself as he pulled up the apartment complex, then looked at the writing on the piece of paper once more to make sure he was at the right place. He had caught Jeff right before he was leaving and asked where Jerrica lived and he told Nick. He thought it was all a little to easy for him. He got out of his car and started to walk up the stairs to her apartment, as he got closer he could feel butterflies in his stomach. Why was he nervous?

When he got to her apartment door he stood there a second then finally knocked. He waited patiently getting more nervous then no one answered. So he knocked again, nothing. He just decided then he would give it to her tomorrow. As soon as he turned around the door opened and he spun around to find a simple looking Jerrica. She was in a pair of pajama pants and a tank top and her hair in a bandanna. He smiled and she looked shocked.

"Ok, I have so many questions right now."

"You left this, I thought I’d bring it to you. Jeff gave me your address."

"Ok that clears everything up. Thanks for doing this, it’s really nice of you." She said smiling at him.

Before Nick could say anything Alexis came running up and stood between Jerrica’s legs. "Who are you?" She asked curiously.

Nick couldn’t help but giggle. He bent down and said, "I’m Nick. You must be Alexis."

"How did you know my name?" She asked wide eyed.

"Your mom told me." He replied standing up looking at Jerrica who was looking at him.

"You want to come watch TV?" Alexis asked sweetly.

"Alexis honey, I think Nick is a little busy for that-."

"I’d love to." Nick said cutting Jerrica off and walked in her apartment.

"I’m watching Rugrats. Do you like them?"

"Yeah." Nick replied looking around.

"Are you investigating my apartment?" Jerrica asked closing the door.

"It’s not as clean as I thought it would be."

"Shut up." She said as she sat down on the end of the couch with Alexis between Nick and her.

Nick was there almost three hours when Alexis fell asleep leaning on him. He didn’t feel that uncomfortable, he already started to like Alexis. She had been asking him lots of questions ever since he sat down. Jerrica was surprised to see Alexis act like that with him. She was never so talkative with strangers. Jerrica got up and started to pick Alexis up, she bent down grabbed her and gently putting in her arms. When she looked at Nick they were inches apart and he was watching her every move. She smiled and walked into Alexis’s room. She set her down in her bed and watched her sleep a while. She never thought she could love someone as much as she loved Alexis. Alexis was her world all she knew anymore and all she cared about.

Jerrica walked out of Alexis’s room and found Nick with his head propped up sleeping. She smiled to herself and thought, ‘One down another to go.’ She didn’t want to wake him he looked so peaceful and adorable. So she grabbed a cover and covered him up, turned off the television and went to bed herself.
